The Gong Show Movie- March 29th from Shout Factory!
My prayers have been answered- I have a bad-quality copy of this taped from cable as it's never been issued officially before, and now it'll be on Blu-Ray!
Still hoping for a complete series set of The Gong Show, but this is great news!

Disappointingly few of which are streaming or show up on TV.

The TVs show was shot on standard-def video. It can't be remastered into high definition.

Shout should add at least a few clips from the TV show. No one would expect anything other than standard TV quality, but the added context would certainly be valuable.
Barris is still around, but at 87-ish and having been long out of the spotlight, I can't imagine Shout got him to participate. Perhaps they can rummage up a doc about him, or maybe that TV Land bio I vaguely recall.
Amazon has the listing up. Love the original art:

I don't have any specific information about The Gong Show, but given the time period, my assumption is that it was probably shot on Sony's U-Matic format (the predecessor to Betacam), which had about 250 lines of resolution. So, roughly comparable to VHS quality.

Some of it was, but most of it's a story about Chuckie going nuts. It likely won't make much sense to anyone who never saw the show.

Hey, i'm trying to track down a specific act from the gong show. two kids doing a magic trick with swords. The trick where one kid wears a box over his head and the other kid sticks swords through the box, looking like the sword goes all the way through but of course not injuring the kid wearing the box. Has anyone seen this episode in any of their DVD or VHS sets or online anywhere? The act came in second place but I don't remember who won.
