Memento is getting a remake...
Fifteen years... and I still haven't seen the original yet. The window on Hollywood remakes keeps getting short and shorter.

Memento, Christopher Nolan’s 2000 breakout thriller, is getting remade.
AMBI Pictures, run by Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi, has announced it will finance and produce the remake.
The company has the remake rights due to its acquisition of the library of Exclusive Media Group. The 400-title library also contains such as movies as Cruel Intentions, Donnie Darko, Rush and Sliding Doors, among others.
AMBI launched a new $200-million film fund last week, a movie which followed the acquisition of the library, and subsequently greenlit Memento as its latest production.
Memento starred Guy Pearce as a man who is tracking down his wife’s killer but suffers from a unique from of memory loss. The movie told part of its story in reverse order while another storyline was chronological. The two met at the end to devastating effect.
Memento, which was released by Newmarket Films, was nominated for best screenplay and best editing and heralded Nolan as a major talent. It grossed $25.5 million at the domestic box office, qualifying it as an indie hit, but it had an even greater impact on film lovers and moviegoers since its initial release.
In a statement, Bacardi said, “Memento is a masterpiece that leaves audiences guessing not just throughout the film, but long after as well, which is a testament to its daring approach. We intend to stay true to Christopher Nolan’s vision and deliver a memorable movie that is every bit as edgy, iconic and award-worthy as the original. It’s a big responsibility to deliver something that lives up to the mastery of the original, but we are extremely excited and motivated to bring this puzzle back to life and back into the minds of moviegoers.”

Not a big surprise, AMBI does a lot of low key movies, this would be no different and it would have a name that would confuse people into watching it. This will end up straight to VOD.

Shocking who chimes in right away in this thread
Memento is probably my favorite, or second favorite (behind the Prestige) movie from Nolan, don't really see the point in remaking it already but if it's just crappy VOD stuff then I guess it doesn't matter much.

Re: Memento is getting a remake...
I wouldn't say Memento is a perfect movie but I do think it's the only Nolan movie that doesn't have substantial flaws.
I was surprised by how well it held up when I watched it on the anniversary Blu a few years ago. I actually like Memento.
In any case, I'd be willing to bet this has something to do with rights reverting back to Nolan and imagine the final product will be a direct-to-Netflix Memento 2: The Remembering.

Re: Memento is getting a remake...
I'm from the Siskel & Ebert school of remakes...the movies that should be remade are the ones with a promising premise that failed because of budgetary constraints or poor execution. Others may disagree, but I think Memento works spectacularly well because of its execution and is most certainly not in need of a remake.
The Nolan film I'd like to see remade is The Following. I thought it was a good independent film and would be curious to see a new version with a beefed up script.
I think I'd prefer to take repeated kicks between the legs than to sit through something like that.

I'm probably going to the get bashed unmercifully for this: but, I think Memento and The Dark Knight are Nolan's top 2 films. They're the most re-watchable.

Pft. The Prestige is where it's at. That movie has some very obsessed, unethical, and immoral characters to follow. And one of them is our supposed good guy.

Memento is one of my favorite movies. I don't see how a remake is going to improve on anything.
