Kinda looking forward to this for some odd reason.

Here's a nice, long Andy Greenwald piece on coming to peace with the up and down nature of the wildly uneven four previous seasons of Homeland.

Let's hope we get more of seasons 1 and 4 (minus 4's finale) and less of seasons 2 and 3.

I read an article that said if they keep the show going, they will be putting Carrie in a new situation each year.

Yeah.

The show has been pretty entertaining most of the time.

I didn't watch the show in "real time" until Season 3 and was really surprised to find people hating on Season 2. Yeah it got a little silly in the back end, but man those first six or so episodes were great. The way they wasted no time letting
Carrie find out she was right, then setting and springing the trap? That stuff was as good as Season 1 in my book.

Decent opener, good tie to current events with the refugee crisis in europe. I do sense a lot of foreshadowing in the post office scene with quinn and saul, when he mentions he'll kill anyone whose name appears in the mailbox. 10 to 1, carrie's name is going to appear in there down the road.

I guess I need to rewatch I did not really follow Quinns plotline at all. I still think Carrie is the least likeable person in a major show.

Re: Homeland (S5E01) -- "Separation Anxiety” -- 10/04/15

Slow, but decent 1st episode. I felt like it was more about setting up the conflict and catching up with the characters. Yeah I was also surprised that they tied in some of the plot to current events.

A little surprised there was some hostility between Carrie and Saul. Especially considering last season ended on such a love fest. I guess that must have transpired in the 2 year gap between seasons. Looks like he's pissed because she fucked him over yet again.

Good start to the season, as most season premiere episodes are a bit slow as it has to set everything up with all of the new characters.

I always like the secondary characters they get as Miranda Otto (Eowyn from Lord of the Rings) will be a good nemesis to Carrie.

And Quinn continues to be my favorite character on the show as he has overtaken Saul for that spot.

I think there are certain givens in every Homeland season:

-Carrie/Saul hate each other, insult each other, and then make up

-Carrie goes bat-shit crazy and has a total meltdown in atleast one episode

-Carrie does whatever the hell she wants and never conforms to her superiors.

And yet I love this show!

Re: Homeland (S5E01) -- "Separation Anxiety” -- 10/04/15

Oh yeah, she will come back to work for the CIA/Saul, she will have strict orders to follow, and then she will do whatever she wants, and Saul will yell at her. If that doesn't happens, then it wasn't Homeland.

I thought the episode was decent. Without checking IMDB, is Carrie's boyfriend a known actor? I thought he will die pretty soon.

Spoiler:

But watching the season advance video it seems he will stay most of the season.

But I thought (and I could be misremembering) Carrie was hating Saul at the end of last season because he made that deal with Dar, letting that one terrorist live and getting a shot at being made CIA director (which apparently didn't work out).

I thought it was a great season premier. The more Quinn the better.

It appears carrie essentially went to work for a wikileaks or The Intercept type of organization directly at odds with the CIA, so it's no surprise that saul is irritated about that, and the fact that saul went along with dar adal's settlement with Haqqani last season is the reason Carrie is irritated with him.

Who was the guy that Quinn killed and how did he figure into the overall plot?

Love those IP addresses that start with 257 or 258. I guess that's IP address version of a 555 phone number.

I'm guessing it was just a random bomb-maker, showing quinn is basically just a hitman right now, with saul probably getting the intel from the joint US-german intel deal that isn't supposed to exist.

That entire "hacking" opening scene was like the fake TV show in Mr. Robot that they used to make fun of shows like this. Fucking embarrassing.

Interesting start to the season. Cool that it's set and was filmed in Germany, a bonus for me

Nice seeing a couple of familiar German faces (the guy who plays During is one of the leads from The Lives of Others, which won an Oscar for best foreign film in 2007....and Carrie's new boyfriend is Sgt Wilhelm from Inglourious Basterds, the tavern scene).

Quinn is being awesome again and I like the idea of Carrie / Saul at odd ends with each other.

Then you've never watched The Walking Dead, where the entire cast is unlikeable.

I would totally watch a Quinn spin off where he goes on 24 style missions.

Re: Homeland (S5E01) -- "Separation Anxiety” -- 10/04/15

This is a fine opener and I like where it's headed. But it does seem odd that Quinn went from nearly choking out Dal Adar in the beginning of Season 4 and nearly murdering him at end of season but still went back to working for him and the CIA. Though they never stated this Adar now appear to be the new CIA director?

"Hanging outside the firewall" is already getting some memes generated for it.

They said something about their firewall having a zero-day that made no sense also.

I work in I.T. (specifically IT Security even) these days so I'll have to let that stuff pass, like my wife (criminal justice degree) always has to restrain her brain a little on shows with courts.

Lol, I did until I realized I did not enjoy it at all and have not seen it in a few years. But you are right about TWD.
