Re: Scorpion (CBS) -- Series Thread -- From Producer Justin Lin

For a show about smart people, too often the writing is pretty pedestrian and cheesy. Still interesting enough for me to follow. Robert Patrick (Agent Cabe Gallo), Katharine McPhee (Paige Dineen), Eddie Kaye Thomas (Toby Curtis) keep it fun for me.

I am giving the show a second chance after dropping it for the second half of season one. Let's see what changes CBS made to the formula.

Besides the new character has there been anything else in the way of changes to the show?

I thought it was a dopey as Under the Dome so unless it's improved I see myself going back.

Why do we always assume the show needs to get retooled? The show was a hit for CBS last season and consistently had over 10M viewers a week.

Yeah some of you thought the writing for this show was corny, but the formula worked. They don't need to make drastic changes. The new character added is only a guest star. She's going to star in the new Criminal Minds spinoff midseason.

I don't think this will happen, but what would be really amusing (hypothetically) is if Rachelle Lefevre and Mike Vogel end up appearing together in Scorpion. (They played Julia Shumway and Barbie in Under The Dome).

Show would be vastly improved if they just let the couples they have toyed with on the show be couples and more forward.

Actually I really don't need it to be retooled.

People like it for what it is and that's fine.

It's just not for me.

Re: Scorpion (CBS) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

How exactly could this show be retooled?

ie. Besides turning it into a CSI: Cyber or Numb3rs clone.

Re: Scorpion (CBS) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

I like the show fine as-is, but certainly one improvement (beyond dumping the "shipper" stuff I posted earlier) would be to simply have the team work on at least some issues that are too complex to conclude in one episode. I realize the CBS older demo likes their procedurals, but even CSI, NCIS, and the like get to have some complex story lines once a season or so.

Heh. Alana de la Garza as a tough-ass authority figure.

I'm so use to thinking of Alana de la Garza in her previous roles, such as the ADA in Law & Order, CSI Miami, etc ....

Re: Scorpion (CBS) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

Loved it. So ridiculous, stupid, over the top, but fun.

Of course Homeland Security will call Team Scorpion to stop a nuclear powered satellite from crashing down into LA causing a potential disaster. Shouldn't bother the more important and more qualified officials.

Looks like they are going to play the will they or won't they card with Paige and Walter even after the kiss. I was glad at least that Walter confessed his feelings to her than have him pretend he doesn't care about her like so many shows do. But, Happy and Toby seem to be moving forward.

Loved when Happy spoke fluent Japanese to that Russian Embassy guard.

Good seeing Alana de la Garza back on TV so soon after Forever was axed.

Still a hokey mess. This is the car crash that I can't seem to look away from.

Everything regarding the balloon was just too dumb for words, as was everything else.

So, Gene Simmons... worst celebrity cameo ever?

I was going to give this show up, but I tuned in for Alana. I don't like where they seem to be going with her character, though, so I may not bother for much longer.

Yeah I thought that was a really dumb cameo as well. I mean really? playing a cop on a TV show?

She only signed on for a limited number of episodes. She's going to be a regular on the new Criminal Minds spinoff with Gary Sinise midseason.

I love the ridiculousness of the show. I come for the characters and stay for the silliness.

Unfortunately I'm between moves and missed the premier. Might have to check it out CBS.com later.

Prison episode was fun, but the takeaway? "The Kid" Sylvester is supposed to be 22?

Re: Scorpion (CBS) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

Yeah the prison episode was fun. Loved the crazy escape. Cabe got his ass kicked by that guard.

Looks like they are seguing writing the new director of Homeland out. Cabe saying he doesn't trust her anymore is a pretty big deal.

Last week when the team traveled to Cuba was fun, but absurd. No sane government would send a team of nerds to help apprehend a wanted war criminal. Oh well, it's escapism entertainment, nothing is supposed to be logical.

Has to be the dumbest show I actually like and it is supposedly about smart people. It has an extremely likable cast though Alana should be premiering in season 2 of Forever tonight instead. Still pissed they cancelled easily the best new show of last year.

Just watched last week's episode.

Looks like Alana was officially written out. Peri Gilpin is now the boss of the Scorpion team.

Re: Scorpion (CBS) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

I wonder if it was deliberate or just an issue of random timing that they ran an ad for Supergirl as the characters walked out in the most cartoon level super hero outfits...

Does a guy dressed as superhero with a rubber chicken in his belt help sell a different show about a superhero? I don't know.. maybe..

Re: Scorpion (CBS) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

90 minute special aired last Monday.

Thought it was goofy, yet fun. I liked how all that chaos including a fire starting came about because of a computer worm that hijacked Walter's laptop. A lot of green screen shots were used.

Unrelated to Scorpion, the trailer for the new MI-5 movie was just released. Very weird seeing Gabel playing a middle east terrorist in it.
