Just got back. Good film, definitely enjoyed it. It follows the book very closely. There are some changes and it left out some things, but nothing remotely critical. It's hard not to compare it to recent space movies, and I will admit that I like Gravity more. Gravity hit the right chords emotionally with me. The Martian also retains the humor of the novel so this was much more lighter in tone than Gravity. People were laughing throughout (again, intentionally). I did like The Martian more than Interstellar. Anyway enough comparing, The Martian is a good film. Good performance by all involved, great effects work, good script.
It's also a step back in the right direction for Scott. His best since 2007's American Gangster.

I just saw it tonight. Decent movie. I'd give it an A-. I didn't see a trailer for it before going to see it. I only read a brief synopsis of the plot beforehand. I was expecting something slow and dry along the lines of Apollo 13 but was surprised by the humor and flow of the movie.

Humor is a large part of what makes the book so good. Seems it either comes across as a welcome element or distracting from the story. I'm glad Scott kept that element in tact, especially given the dark nature of most of his work.

Going to head out to this in a bit. Going into it blind, as I've not read the book. Looking forward to this. Ever since the trailer, I think this has been the movie I've most looked forward to this year outside of Avengers. I don't think this one will let me down like that movie did, though.

Earliest showing we got here is 1:10. In 3D, which I don't mind cuz Scott knows how to use his 3D well most of the time. I can't remember if I saw Gods and Kings in 3D. I think I did and I wasn't impressed by it.

Wife and I caught this last night. Neither of us read the book, but the trailers made it seem pretty interesting. We were not disappointed. The humor in it was just right and helped with what could have been a thoroughly depressing concept.
Definitely his best overall effort in a long time. America gangster was the last movie of his that I really enjoyed. I didn't know quite what to expect having recently watched the horrible Exodus.

Just got back from seeing this. Very good movie. Well paced and acted. The scenic part of Mars was well done and it was believable overall.
4.5/5 for me. Can't wait to see it again.

Loved it.
Can't really gripe about it. A large cast that sometimes ALMOST edges to not being worth in it but they've all their purpose and it's strong even for the small parts. A lot of soul to it. Great looking film, as Scott usually has mastered. It felt so human of a film. It didn't feel unrealistic or too far in character or action. Everything had it's limits, it visually and verbally gave you that.
3D was solid. Not a gripe for that. Very few directors have mastered 3D and Scott just knows how to work it. Really gave the depth that a lot films lack. It's a subtle art to be great in 3D. Happy to see Scott worked that format well again.
I can't wait for the BD. I want to have a Charles de Lauzirika documentary, it better have it. Dunno if Gods and Kings had it but this one deserves one so much cuz that world and production is amazing.

Just got back. Fantastic movie. Does a phenomenal job of teetering between suspenseful and comedic. Matt Damon was great in this, as was most of the other cast.
