Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 (D: Bruno Aveillan) S: Renner, Arterton

EXCLUSIVE: Bruno Aveillan is set to make his feature directorial debut on Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 for Paramount. Aveillan is an award-winning commercials director known for his blend of cinematic style and groundbreaking effects, which he displayed with short films for branded content that included Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Swarovski, Crystals, Audi and Samsung. Tommy Wirkola wrote and directed the original.

Aveillan will continue the adventures of the witch-hunting siblings played by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. Compared to the flood of revisionist fairy tales for family audiences, this was a raucous, raunchy gem and audiences responded. The $50 million-budget film grossed $226 million and did especially strong business overseas. There is certainly room to grow this into a franchise. Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Kevin Messick are producing through Gary Sanchez Productions, with Beau Flynn and his FlynnPictureCo.

I saw the first one about 2 months ago. It was a lot of fun. Not sure I want a 2 though. If it looks good, I'll check it out.

Can't believe the first one made enough $$ to spur a sequel.

The first one is stupid fun. Might consider seeing the sequel.

How the hell did it make over $200 million? Curious how much of that was overseas as it seems like the type of film to do well there (and was mentioned in the article).

The first is a guilty pleasure for me. I love how Hansel basically tells everyone to fuck off for the whole movie. It's a good one to put on in the background. I'd be up for a sequel!

So this is what a downturn in the housing market has forced Renner to do.

Every time I watch the first one I expect Arterton and Renner to stop and wink at the camera a few times. Glad they are both in for the sequel.

Never knew this movie made money.

Never gave this movie a second thought, and never expected a sequel.

Never got around to watching it on Netflix, and now it's gone.

Never knew this movie was produced through Gary Sanchez Productions (which piques my interest).

Man, some of these overseas numbers are really helping movies that didn't do well in America/Canada get a sequel. That's a nice profit in just the overseas alone.
