Amanda Peterson (Can't Buy Me Love) has died
I always wondered why she never went on to do more things ... sad.

Amanda Peterson -- star of the flick "Can't Buy Me Love" -- has died at her home in Greeley, Colorado ... TMZ has learned.
We spoke with Peterson's father who tells us ... the family hadn't heard from 43-year-old Amanda since July 3rd and became concerned. Her body was finally discovered in her home on July 5.
As for cause of death, Peterson's father tells us they don't know the official cause of death -- but notes, "She had some illness and a sleep apnea problem that may have contributed."
We're also told Peterson had been dealing with several medical issues over the past 2 years -- including pneumonia, sinusitis and sleep apnea. Peterson's father also says she had been living in a home with mold issues ... but moved out about a year ago.
Peterson became a superstar playing Cindy Mancini opposite Patrick Dempsey in the 1987 romantic comedy ... but she left the entertainment industry altogether in 1994 and had been living in Colorado for years.
We're told she went back to school several years ago -- but dropped out around 2010. Recently, we're told she had been trying to make it as a writer.

Man, that is terrible. I crushed hard on her back in 87. I was 15. She was so beautiful. Dempsey made it big from that movie, I'm surprised she didn't. Obviously, Hollywood won't miss her, but a lot of guys in the 35-45 age range will remember her.

This one hits me hard. She was one of my big crushes from the 80s, too. Probably my biggest, in fact. So devastatingly cute. I always wished she had done more after CBML. I'm truly overwhelmed with sadness over this.

I'm older than that but still remember being quite taken with her girl next door attractiveness. She was so freakin cute. Sleep apnea only kills you if fall asleep the next day driving a car

You're thinking of narcolepsy. Sleep apnea is stopping breathing usually due to heavy snoring through large tonsils (obstructive sleep apnea). Usually you do wake up when you can't get a breath and panic, but over time you can develop an enlarged right side of your heart (Cor Pulmonale) and elevated blood pressure in your lungs (pulmonary hypertension) from sleep apnea. It can be a life threatening illness. Some people have to sleep with a sleep mask on their nose to keep from having trouble at night.

My wife never slept properly at night and was borderline narcoleptic until she was diagnosed with chronic sleep apnea and fitted for a CPAP mask. Since then she's never been healthier, happier, or more mentally alert. It's a real illness with devastating effects if not treated sooner.
Poor girl, RIP. Combined with her other symptoms and living in mold... that's a ticking time bomb. If you live anywhere near the water, give that house a thorough environmental check every year.

Very sad to hear of this news. It's a shame she didn't go on to have a big career as well.
My father has the CPAP mask and it's helped him out a lot with his sleep.

I'm currently waiting on approval from my insurance for a sleep apnea test. One month down, one more to go. It's a real shame she died so young.

She was also very good as Ethan Hawke's puppy love interest in Joe Dante's EXPLORERS (1984). At the end they fly through the air together and share their first kiss while doing so.

Sad to hear. Like most, I too fondly remember her from Can't Buy Me Love. I also remember her from the movie Explorers a couple years earlier. Kind of forgot about her to be honest and didn't realize she left the industry years back.
