Summer Sale Coupon Codes @ DD and DVDPlanet
Deep Discount Code: TREASUREISLAND (10% off total) good thru 6/5
DVD Planet Code: CHIEF ($5 off $40) good thru 6/8 11pm PST
Not spectacular sales, but as usual there are some deals if you are willing to look and crunch numbers.
Also, these codes are only good for a few days which makes me think that, at least in the case of Deep Discount, there will be another sale or set of codes soon afterwards. Their usual sale is 20-25% off, but only on select titles. My experience has been you get a better deal with the monthly 15% coupons.
Currently DVD Planet has the best price on the Flicker Alley Bd Man With The Movie Camera @ $30.86 prior to any coupon. That will still best B&N's price during it's 40% off sale.
Also, there are some Kino Bd titles that work out to great than 40% off with the coupons, and will likely be a better overall deal than B&N as well.

Man, the DDD sale used to be anticipated with such eagerness. The thread for each sale would have been in multiple pages by now.
How times change.

I'm not so sure this is the 'big' summer sale. Those sales run a lot longer than just a couple days. The problem with those sales the last 5-6 years has been selective sale pricing. You're likely to find more of what you are looking for, at a better price, with the monthly 15% off coupons rather than the twice yearly 25% sales.
IMO, for this part of the year anything over 40% is a good deal- as 40% off is what you will get at B&N. Some of the Kino Bds are close to 50% off with the coupons right now at DD and DVDP.
YMMV and patience will always be rewarded eventually if you wait long enough.
This is more of a sale if you don't want to wait.

You can actually get a lot of stuff cheaper than in the days of the great DDD sales. Back then the everyday price was 30% off MSRP across the board. With the big 25% sales that came to a max of 47.5% off MSRP. That was the best you could get. Now with coupons I'm constantly getting stuff 70% or better off MSRP.
It does suck that only items with a beach ball are eligible for 20%+ coupons but there are still a lot of ghood stuff with beach balls. Best time to get Olive titles. And Deal Grabbers usually have the beach ball.
Don't care for the $5.00 shipping charge on some sets even though you are above the $25 minimum.

Re: Summer Sale Coupon Codes @ DD and DVDPlanet
It was last August when DD had a killer Olive sale. I purposely bought cheaper titles, but nothing on my order was more than $10.69. Maybe this wasn't unusual, but I haven't seen anything like it since. Hopefully it returns this August.
I should have pounced on DD's BOGO Kino sale from last January (?), which would be the sale to beat, assuming the stuff you want qualifies. (Mine rarely does.) Until then, what's the typical, after-discount price (minus any *Bates stuff) for a Kino title? About $13.50?

2006 sounds about right. DD's once-great sales had already faded by the arrival of Blu-ray.
I wonder if they broke even during those sales? The sales first started out as everything on the site was available. Slowly but surely, certain labels were removed each year from the sale. Some at their request, some because DD didn't want to keep selling them at a loss.

Indeed. I remember those halcyon days.

Re: Summer Sale Coupon Codes @ DD and DVDPlanet
Received my package today from the order placed on 6/3.
I think that's a new record.
Just wish now that I'd added a couple more things.
As expected, they are changing up the deals/coupon codes every several days.
The latest is AHAB which is 10% off your entire order if you buy at least $50 in Blu-rays.

Thanks for the information. I ordered Grantchester, which I had never heard of, but which seems to be the sort of thing that I like (Murdoch Mysteries and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries are two of my favorite TV series), and The Big Gundown, which I've wanted to get for quite a while.

Yeah, the surcharge for sets does suck and it is the one thing that pisses me off about DD, but final price is what counts in the end, and if I pay less with the surcharge than at Amazon FSSS, guess where I'm buying .

Re: Summer Sale Coupon Codes @ DD and DVDPlanet
Newest code BLACKBEARD good through 6/12 (Fri) till noon.
Better than the last code IMO, as it only requires the purchase of 3 titles in the same format to qualify for 10% off the whole order.
There were titles streeting today that I expected to pick up from B&N, but for some reason they don't seem to qualify online for the 40% off and aren't showing up as in stock in store. Guess I'll be getting off another order with DD this week.

^You don't need 3 of the same format. It's mix-and-match. I dropped in a couple of DVDs and a CD (3 items total) and the discount applied.

Eh, I guess I'll never see them on Blu, plus my daughter has renewed interest in them because of Teen Titans Go, so I picked up the five seasons of Teen Titans on DVD. To keep this on topic I also picked up the Blu-Rays of both Batman Brave and the Bold and Young Justice.

Adjusted for inflation, milk costs half of what it did 100 years ago. It would cost even less if they ended price subsidies. But then poor people could afford to buy milk too.
