Danny Collins (2015, D: Dan Fogelman; S: Pacino, Benning, Cannavale)
Inspired by a true story, Al Pacino stars as aging 1970s rocker Danny Collins, who can't give up his hard-living ways. But when his manager (Christopher Plummer) uncovers a 40 year-old undelivered letter written to him by John Lennon, he decides to change course and embarks on a heartfelt journey to rediscover his family, find true love and begin a second act.
My mom was in town last week and I took her to go see this, we both loved it. It was great seeing Pacino actually acting again, you can tell he put some effort into it. This is the type of film that you know the major points that are going to be hit going in but you just don't care. The characters are likable, everybody has their moment to shine and the ending hits the perfect note.
With all that said, it truly is laughable that Bobby Cannavale would be Al Pacino's kid.
Another thing to note, the entire soundtrack (outside of Danny Collins fictional originals) is comprised of John Lennon solo material.
