Ori and the Blind Forest (PC and Xbox One; 360 coming soon)
Looks like Ori and the Blind Forest is getting some GOTY type review scores. Mostly 9/10. Definitely picking this up tomorrow, it's been pretty hyped up for a year now!

Shit, I should sell my hard copy of Madden 15 now that it's in the vault.
Glad to hear Ori is getting great reviews. Sold on that one.

I can't go for full-priced digital games anymore with sales being so frequent. I will pick up Ori eventually. Looks really cool (but apparently brutally hard which is kind of a turn off for me -- maybe that's something they'll address post-release).

I can't wait to play Ori, when it goes on sale eventually. $20 is more than I'm willing to pay for an arcade game (yes, I know arcade isn't a thing anymore).

Edit - one water escape down! That was pretty brutal...teetering on being frustrating but thankfully not quite there.

I bought Ori but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Hoping to play it a bit tonight and tomorrow.

Ori really doesn't like the XBox One's resume feature. Crashes on me every time I try and pick back up. Also, i've had the game crash on the main title screen twice now too. Nothing game breaking, but these kind of things seem like they should have been quickly noticable in testing.

I've had my XO crash three times in the past few days requiring a hard restart. And I don't even have Ori. I wonder if a new update is fucking things up,

Ori flickers spastically every time I turn off the console and come back to it. It's not a big deal to manually quit the game, but it's bizarre that this wasn't addressed in QA.

Edit - nevermind, I'm dumb, and the "bug" was my fault. There was one more thing I needed to do earlier in Mount Horu that I missed.

Wow, Adam. That sucks!
I haven't gotten to that part yet.
The only two problems I've had with Ori are:
- When I first started playing, and hit Start Game, it froze. I didn't have to restart the console, but I had to restart the game TWICE before it'd actually work.
- About two hours into my first play session, the game froze. I was at the part where the guy you're chasing breaks the bridge and you fall really far. Again, I didn't need to restart the console. I just cancelled the game and quit playing for the night.
Last night, I played for about three hours. No glitches/freezes/anything. I got through the first "escape" sequence, which was tough. I stopped playing after that. I used my headphones for sound last night (family was sleeping, I was playing between midnight and 3am). The music in this game is perfect. I love it.
On a side note, I'm still having the "crappy sound and controller disconnecting" issue that's been happening for MONTHS. Super frustrating.

So why don't they have Ori on the 360? It's not like this is the exclusive that'll get people to jump on the X1. And they're just missing out on the money from people who'd get it on the 360.

It was announced for "later this year" on the 360. I believe it was made by a very small team, and making versions for 2 different systems takes time.
Edit: Darn it, Adam, stop being so on top of things!

Yeah, I kept hitting the starting bug in Ori too. Both bummed and relieved it's not just me. I deleted it and restarted a download last night - because that's always going to be the first thing Support requests.

Kotaku reported on the Ori bug last Wednesday. MS is aware:
We have identified a conflict between 'Ori and the Blind Forest' and the Xbox One's 'instant on' feature. We are working to resolve the conflict in an upcoming update. In the meantime, we recommend players fully quit out of the game and restart, rather than resuming their game quickly. There is no need to uninstall and reinstall the game.

Re: Xbox One: no, wait, it's $349 again -- cheapskates, resume rejoicing
So I thought I was stuck in Ori, but it turns out I'm just dumb. I couldn't figure out how to get to the Misty Woods. I managed to get to the gate to Mount Horu, and kept thinking that that was the only way to progress. The bad thing is I spent probably 3 or 4 hours wandering around the first section of the map (everything under the big tree), looking for an item that didn't exist. The good news is I'm now near 100% completion in finding items. There are some items that I simply cannot get yet (I assume a new ability will change that).
I got through most of the Misty Woods, though. I saved right before entering the next "escape" section. Needed a break.
This game is great, though. I'm getting as much, if not more, joy out of it as I did with Guacamelee.

I finished the first "escape" sequence, and thought it was pretty fun and thrilling. Kind of reminded me of old NES games where you die a lot until you learn what to do. Back tracking through a lot of the map wasn't quite as interesting as other games of this type though; felt like there wasn't quite enough to do or re-discover getting from place to place.

You're talking about
right?
I totally agree. That part was awesome, and I love the music in that sequence so much. The soundtrack is on streaming services. I've been listening to it. A lot.
What's frustrating about the map, for me, is that some areas are completely blocked off once you complete them, so if you do miss any of the collectibles, you have to start from scratch and try to get everything.
I like that this game gives you hints about what to do, but doesn't flat-out walk you through every puzzle. The part, a bit later on from where fumanstan is at,
is some of the best gameplay I've seen in the last year. It's a short sequence (depending on how quickly you catch on to the mechanics), but it's so much fun.
Ori needs a map-building add-on, so people can run wild with things like that.
edit: I think this game needs its own thread. Maybe the mods could create one and merge these posts into it? It'll eventually be out on other systems, and it's already on Steam. The more love for Ori, the better.
edit 2: thanks!

I completed the game last night. The final sequence was a little frustrating, but easier than I expected it to be. Overall, this is easily one of my favourite games of 2015.
Also, there's a "no death" achievement. No way I'm getting that one.

I think Limbo had a no death achievement also but at least they gave you 5 lives to get that one.
