dvd recorder

my dad wants to burn some videos onto a dvd.
He is really bad with tech stuff. so no computer burners.
what is the simplest dvd recorder for him?
i'm guessing something to plug into the tv.

Re: dvd recorder

What is the source? "Some videos" doesn't tell us much.

Re: dvd recorder

Are DVD recorders no longer made? Looks like most of Amazon's are used and Bestbuy.com doesn't seem to carry any at all. A while back, it looked like they quit making standalone DVD recorders and switched to DVD-R/VHS combo units, but I can't even find any of those.

Looks like I had better pray the Toshiba DVD recorder I got at Sam's in 2009 lasts a long time...

Re: dvd recorder

Wal-Mart carries them - the VHS/DVD recorders. I've gotten a few of them from there over the years when I wear them out.

Mine died a couple years ago. It recorded to a hard drive or to a DVD.

Re: dvd recorder

You can get a Panasonic which is probably the best brand but hard to findand you might have to shell out close to $300+ at Amazon.

Re: dvd recorder

Glad I've got a total of 3- using one with 2 backups. I had the first affordable consumer model but it died beyond repair.

Re: dvd recorder

It'll depend on what you want to convert. I've had some stuff that I've wanted to get off of a DVR forever, and HDCP is a bitch. That said, I haven't seen DVD recorders lately, it seems to be mostly done with hard drives. People much more tech savvy than I am use connections and do it straight from computers and laptops.

Yeah, my dead one is a Panny. Honestly I'm not sure I need it that much anymore since content is much more accessible now than it was back then.

Re: dvd recorder

I still use mine to for stuff I want to keep and store like NFL games.

I hate the dvd recorders that don't have a HDMI output.

Re: dvd recorder

It looks like you can't record anything from Directv (ABC, NBC etc) if you have a HDMI cable connected to the recorder unless you remove it and the HDMI cable from the dvr which is a pain.

Before it was just HBO, Starz, Cinemax, and ppv.
