Best film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

Yes Birdman is nominated for a bunch of awards this year, but is it his best film? For me his best would be Biutiful, which also happens to have Javier Bardem's best performance. Is Birdman his second best film? Maybe for some, but but for me it's 21 Grams, with that great ensemble cast of Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Naomi Watts, Charlotte Gainsbourg & Melissa Leo. So far he has made 5 films and to me they are all good with some being better than others. With Birdman he has branched into an interesting direction from his other films by making some sort of hybrid that's part Godard, Fellini & Bunuel. If he keeps up like this, I will always look forward to whatever he does next. So what do you folks think is his best?

Re: Best film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

I still haven't watched Biutiful, I think 21 Grams is his best film overall, though agree with some reviews that state it's a little too much like taking the long road to a short destination. Amores Perros was good, Babel was good, Birdman didn't do it for me but the "Tracking shot" style and acting were top notch.

Considering my love of Mulholland Drive and like of 21 Grams, I think I may just give auto high marks to Naomi Watts being naked.

I voted for 21 Grams. Just a superb film with some amazing acting. Love the hell out of it. That was the year Sean Penn won an Oscar for "Mystic River," but I think he was even better in "21 Grams."

The only film of his I've seen is BABEL, and it was at a screening with the filmmaker and two of the cast (one of them was Rinko Kikuchi, I forget the other one). I didn't like it.

I think Babel is probably his worst film, although I still haven't seen Birdman.

I really like 21 Grams (it's the only film of his I own on disc), but I've yet to see a compelling argument for the fractured narrative structure he uses. It's a neat bit of editing, but I don't see how it relates to the film and it's story.

I'm actually quite behind on his films. I've only seen the first 3. I still need to see Biutiful and Birdman. Amores Perros is a masterpiece, though. I have the UK BD of that one.

Babel was shit. Otherwise I've seen both Amores Perros and Birdman, and I'd give it to Birdman although both are excellent.

I would probably put in at the bottom of his films but I still liked it mostly because of the story with Rinko Kikuchi

I think that just like Pulp Fiction it makes the story more interesting by revealing certain things at a certain time and showing their relation to the past, present & future.

What are you waiting for? You better hurry before you get disowned by the Mexican community.

It's good but I would put that one slightly above Babel.

I like Birdman the best, since it's the least uneven.

Make that three. It's on the DVR, but just haven't got around to it yet. Gotta hurry up before the Oscar challenge ends.

Birdman and Amores Perros are neck-and-neck for me....And I actually liked Babel more than 21 Grams.

I've crapped better movies than Babel. I gotta give it to Birdman, but overall I don't think he's a very good director.

Re: Best film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

Finally caught up and watched Birdman and Biutiful over the weekend. Both were great but Biutiful is a fucking masterpiece!

He's yet to make a bad film but in my order of preference - they are:

Amores Perros
Biutiful
Birdman
Babel
21 Grams

I do need to see Babel and 21 Grams again. It's been a while and I own them both on BD.

Re: Best film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

Hard to make my mind up between Birdman and Amores Perros.

Forced to rank them I'd go:

5 Babel
4 21 Grams
3 Biutiful
2 Birdman
1 Amores Perros.

But one and two are really neck and neck.

I like Amores Perros a lot but the model story is the weakest. It just doesn't have the power the other 2 have. It's very plain compared to them.

I think the middle segment is the weakest but if that's weak then I don't want to be strong. The bookended material is the best. Granted, once the material picks up in the second installment then it flows ugh better. This is not a knock on the film obviously since I love it.

Region A. It's the Canadian version. It's barebones, though.

IMO it's AGI's best film and Javier Bardem's best performance. It was a very moving and haunting film that I thought about for days.

I wasn't as crazy about the movie, but no argument with the bolding.
