YANTMT: Looking for name of an old movie
Yet another name that movie thread...
Movie is old, I'm thinking 30s, 40s, 50s. Might be B&W or early color days.
The scene I remember is that a couple of bad guys have a musical band (like a big band type of group) locked inside a room in a house. I think the bad guys are in front of a mantle or tall shelf and they are holding the band people at gunpoint. There is a 'drum' sideways on the mantle and to get out of this the band plays music and the drum moves around to the music and eventually falls on the bad guys and knocking them out. I think there is a girl involved somehow too that is held up with the band.
I thought it was a Kay Kyser (it's his type of band) or Danny Kaye movie, but I'm not finding anything in their movie lists.
Sound familiar to anyone?

I think you nailed it!
MUCH appreciated! It's been driving me crazy for a while now, not sure how I passed that one over. Off to find a copy now.
Edit: Yikes, not cheap!

Thanks again, flixtime!
Got the disc from Amazon (actually a 4 disc Danny Kaye set), and watched it today. Fun movie.

Just for the record, A SONG IS BORN is a remake of the earlier film, BALL OF FIRE (1941), with Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. Billy Wilder co-wrote the earlier film. Howard Hawks directed both versions. The later one is in Technicolor and has more jazz in it, with an incredible array of great guest stars including Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton, Tommy Dorsey and Buck and Bubbles. And Benny Goodman plays one of the old professors!
