$10 GCs in the mail just like this. Free copies of the Braveheart DVD. $15 GCs free everywhere online without even clicking. And when they sell you something, they ship it at the agreed price, even if it's 83 percent off or a mistake.

If only Buy.com could be as honorable.

I did not personally, but they just sent it as a "thank you" gift to a bunch of their frequent customers. It was posted all over the place here about 3 months ago.

To begin with, I got a free copy of Braveheart despite paying for almost all my DVD's with either pointclick or gift certificates. I'd say $150 was through pointclick, and $400 or so were in GCs, maybe a little more. Only like $20 bucks was out of my pocket-at most.

Secondly. Amazon does rule. I can't believe how many people here hate them. And how upset they get about variable pricing. Oh well, too bad for them. Let those guys buy from other stores. For me it's almost 100% Buy.com and Amazon.com

I like them because they have excellent shipping to Canada. With every other store I pay customs fees of 10 buck plus.

despite their variable pricing scheme and their "mispricings" on the jet li collection, tom cruise action pack, etc.. that they won't ship, they are still (along with buy.com) the best overall because no other stores can come close to them in terms of price (buy.com w/all those coupons and amazon w/all those GCs)

You are dreaming about this one. If they ship it before they catch their mistake maybe. I bet the 'adjusted' 95% of those Jet Li orders, if not more.

I love Amazon simply because I love Freeride, Jaboom, etc.

No, they're not. Their prices before coupons and GCs are some of the highest online, but after applying coupons and GCs, which are easy to get almost everywhere, they have some of the lowest prices. On average, I get about $30 a week in Amazon coupons -- without using any of the "clicking" sites.

Here are just some random examples:

Erin Brockovich:
Lowest non-coupon price: A&B Sound -- $18.79, shipped.

Buy.com Price: $22.44, shipped (no coupons available at this price for existing customers)

Amazon Price: $18.99 - $15 GC = $6.94, shipped (or using the $10 Coupon everyone got in the mail, $11.94, shipped).

Evil Dead Limited Tin:
Lowest non-coupon price: Direct Video -- $24.44, shipped.

Buy.com price (no coupons available at this price for existing customers): $25.94 (plus tax for me), shipped.

Amazon Price: $27.99 - $15 GC = $15.94, shipped (Or using the $10 coupon everyone got in the mail, $20.94).

The Perfect Storm SE:
Amazon Price: $14.99 - $15 GC = $2.98, shipped.
Amazon is the lowest non-coupon online price for this DVD, as well.

Etc., etc.

Am I happy about the recent renegging on Thursday's prices? No, they've lost some luster in my eyes as a result. But I can still get the best prices online from them, and as long as I can, I will still shop there.

Gee, I guess if I had an unlimited supply of $15 GC's I'd think their **** don't stink, too.

What I meant was without any GC's. Like twgeorge said it's just fine and dandy if you have all those GC's. A lot of us do not.
I just love the crap they pull. I had it happen to me. I ordered a dvd then the price changed (went higher) twice in the span of 8 hours. So what is up with that?

You do. All you have to do is watch these boards and sign up for them. The point is, Amazon GCs are so easy to get.

Edit:

And everyone has a virtually unlimited supply of the $5 no-minimum "Refer-a-friend" GCs (10 per email address per year). Just using those $5 GCs, Amazon's prices beat the other etailers' prices above.

The analysis is flawed because you forgot to use Buy GC's. I got a whole bunch left over from Reel and so I take $10 off each of my orders. They're easy to get without any clicking and ... </sarcasm>

No, I didn't. As I said, there are no buy GCs available for existing customers, except for orders over $30. While some people still have leftover buy GCs from Reel coupons, they are no longer available. Amazon GCs and coupons are still available everywhere.
