One day after Sony Pictures canceled the theatrical release of "The Interview," theaters have been forced to ax screenings of "Team America: World Police."
The 2004 film from "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone includes an animated version of former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. Voiced by Trey, the movie depicts the leader being murdered.
"The Interview," meanwhile, fictionalizes a death scene involving the current North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the son of Kim Jong Il.
"We can confirm that the screening of 'Team America' was cancelled as the film was pulled from release. We are issuing refunds to those that purchased tickets," Alamo Drafthouse said in a statement to Access Hollywood .
Another cinema took to social media to post the news.
"Please note: Our Late Shift screening of Team America: World Police has been canceled by Paramount Pictures," Tweeted Capitol Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio.
In a statement issued to Access , the theater further explained the circumstances.
"Cleveland Cinemas' Capitol Theatre was never going to show 'Team America' on Christmas Day," Director of Marketing Dave Huffman said. "It wasn't booked to play until June 20, 2015 as part of our midnight series. Today we received a letter from Paramount around 1pm (EST) letting us know the film had been pulled from release and we would have to find an alternate for that theater."
Paramount Pictures originally released the movie in October 2004. The studio would not confirm nor deny the cancelation reports.
A spokesperson for Paramount had no comment when contacted by Access .

Re: 'Team America' Screenings Canceled
This being pulled is dumb. I can see why The Interview was pulled even if I don't necessarily agree with it. Team America has already been out for a decade and doesn't have a plot revolving around assassinating Kim Jong Il. It's more just a parody on America's need to be the world's police. They parody Kim Jong Il and terrorism but the plot isn't even close to the same so Paramount is just being overly paranoid if you ask me.
