Movies with scenes of the characters at the movies
I'm making a montage for work which will use quick bits of the characters from movies actually at the cinema, and I'd certainly appreciate any help in coming up with the best ones. Naturally, I know it's a big topic, if not as big as "scenes with the sky in them", but I'd love to be surprised with something cool.
George Clooney and Frances McDormand in Burn After Reading
Sam Neill yukking it up in In The Mouth of Madness
The different sets of friends at the movies in Diner
The kids at the cinematheque in The Dreamers
Toto at the end of Cinema Paradiso
Yes, the nazis in Inglourious Basterds
I'm sure I'm missing the most obvious-to-you ones - it'd just something I'm starting - but what comes to your mind?

In DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY (1993), Linda takes Bruce to the movies to see BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S and what do they come in on? A scene with Mickey Rooney impersonating a Japanese, which everyone in the audience, including Linda, laughs at, except for Bruce who sits there horrified. She sees his reaction and starts to realize her mistake.
In Hitchcock's SABOTEUR (1942), the hero is chased by spies into Radio City Music Hall where the movie scene playing on the screen was created just for the film to match the action.
In BRIEF ENCOUNTER (1945), the two married lovers, Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson, go to the movies on an early date and watch clips from MGM's HOLLYWOOD PARTY, including a scene with Jimmy Durante playing a jungle hero named "Schnarzan."
In THE COBWEB (1955), two psychologically disturbed young people living at a psychiatric clinic are allowed to go into town on a date to see a movie. The music we hear in that scene (although we don't see the screen) is from SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, an MGM release from the year before.
In ACROSS THE PACIFIC (1942), Bogart goes into a theater in Panama showing a Japanese movie to make contact with a spy. We see clips from the Japanese movie, which I wish I could identify.
Here's that scene:

There are tons more, but this is what I recall off the top of my head, although I should point out that the TAXI DRIVER scene of De Niro and Cybill Shepherd at a porno movie theater on 42nd Street is pretty iconic.

In The Blob when the theater is attacked, they are watching an Ed McMahon narrated movie called Daughter of Horror.
In Targets, the Drive-In at the end is honoring Byron Orlok (Karloff) by showing The Terror

And both films' movie theater scenes take place on 42nd Street. As does TAXI DRIVER's. As well as another Scorsese film--MEAN STREETS, where the characters go to 42nd Street theaters twice, first to see THE SEARCHERS and then to see TOMB OF LIGEIA.

ugh. I hate Dragon so much. As a kid, I was all for it cuz I LOVED Lee. But as I got older and learned about him? HOLY FUCK was that thing a joke of a tale of the man.

The only thing I remember about The Trigger Effect is Elisabeth Shue getting berated by a couple of black dudes in a movie theater.

Re: Movies with scenes of the characters at the movies
One of the Scary Movie movies had a scene in a movie theater where a black woman talks loudly on her cell phone ("I'm all up in this place") infuriating the other patrons as well as the masked killer. I don't think we ever saw what film they were seeing.
