I am a procrastinator and this should have been done long time ago. Over 3000 discs in my collection (many, many tv shows) need to be placed in binders because my living room cannot take more abuse in a form of another dvd book case.

I searched different forums for suggestions and I noticed that often people were not satisfied with converting to binders and they went back to displaying dvd's in normal cases. I have extremely hard time to get rid of things (art work, tv sets cases), but eventually I will have to move long distance, so this has to be done no matter how hard I resist .

I am deciding between normal office binders and Case Logic cases. For office binders, what size people usually pick. 2" or 3"? Is a full 3" binder too unwieldy?

So far, I have kept a basic spreadsheet, but I decided to purchase DVD Profiler and enter everything there.

If anyone wants to share their experience, I would be most grateful.

I used these. Blu ones for blu-rays, black ones for dvd's, and a red one for HD-DVD (fml).

I don't have advice for binders, but I have a suggestion for Profiler.

It sounds like you're a new Profiler user-if you've found this before, ignore, but just in case: You can keep track of where your discs are using the location/slot fields on the personal information section. (Either double click or right click/edit on the title you want to open the edit screen. Then chose the last option, personal information. The fields are there towards the bottom middle of the window.) You can easily make a report to print out to use as a index as well if you use those fields. I know a lot of users who keep their collection in binders use this method.

Do you have some sort of organization inside the cases (alphabetical), or do you just put them into the binders as you buy them, and then use the Movie Collector to tell you where to go?

A follow-on to either answer: if you buy boxsets of movies, do you split the set to make INDIVIDUAL films easier to find, or keep them together to make the group possible to locate..?

Case Logic and Targus binders are good. Full, they can be unweildy - and heavy - but those two in particular can take the strain (in my experience). Recently I found the smaller 120 TekNMotion cases on Amazon for about $12, and those - while small - are excellent. Sleek, nice feel, thin enough to put on a shallow bookcase* and sturdy to lug about. Despite the reduced capacity, I'm eying those alongside Amazon Basics' 400 capacity one.. for my next moval.



*...depending on the bookcase, obviously.

Looks like the ones I got a couple of years ago have stopped being made though... hope they either come back, or that quality continues.

I haven't moved all my DVDs over to binders, but for collections (TV series, movies series, or movies w/ a common theme) I'll use Unikeep binders http://www.unikeep.com/collections/media-storage/ and create a custom cover for it. Either a full one for the 10/20 disk wallets or a spine only for the 40/80 disk binders.

One for me and one for my wife was plenty, and it's amazing how much space it saves. I did keep my criterion blu ray cases and a couple box sets, but it was a great choice overall.

Good to know, thanks. I used Profiler briefly, years ago. Sadly, my old registration key no longer works, and I will need to purchase new one, but it's definitely worth $30.

AmazonBasics cases - I looked at those and I like them. I wish pages in those were movable.

I've been using these for my Blu-rays and DVDs...I like them a lot, because you have someplace to save the slick as well.

I have all of mine in Case Logic wallets arranged by genre. I've tried other brands, but always end up coming back to Case Logic. Even though the older ones were made better, the newer ones are still superior to all the other brands on the market. Their "ProSleeves" alone make them worth the price of admission. A lot of other brands use pages that can scuff the discs or produce hairline scratches. I've never had a disc scratched by a Case Logic ProSleeve and I've been using them for years. The bigger Case Logic wallets use the "Quick-Lock" system which allows you to open the binder up and add or remove pages. The downside is you can only open it from the front, so if you want to add or remove a page from the back of the binder, you have to remove all of the pages in front of it first. In my experience, however, it's really not that big of a deal.

Have you tried asking for help in the new user forum? Usually they're able to help people recover the key. If you remember your old login name/password/email, try logging in with that and it'll be there under "registration" at the top of the screen. You could also contact Invelos using their technical support ticket. Worth a shot. Good luck!

Do you - and everyone else - mix DVDs with Blu-rays? And if not (or even if so), how do you deal with combo packs - split them up, or keep them together?

I don't mix the DVDs with the Blu-rays, but with Combo Packs, I'll either just put the DVD behind the Blu-ray in the sleeve (there's plenty of room in these sleeves for 2 discs) or, if I'm worried about scratching, I'll stick the DVD inside the SLICK and it will be behind it (not visible) in that sleeve.

For me it's just fine. Well protected and it has a handle if you need to carry it anywhere.
