I only consider the Ralph Macchio trilogy to be the real Karate Kid. The Next Karate Kid and the remake are garbage that will never pollute my precious Karate Kid collection.

Re: For diehard fans of the Karate Kid (1984)
I probably wouldn't buy it. I do like KKIII, but not that much. I would just hang onto my KKIII DVD.
I want to get rid of all my DVDs and replace them with BDs, but I know that is likely to never happen. Several of my movies will never get a BD release. I just hate having a mixed collection with DVDs and BDs together. I am just OCD about it I guess. Remember those cardboard snapper cases that DVDs use to come in? That annoyed the heck out of me having a mix of those cardboard cases with the more traditional plastic cases. I was so OCD about it, I would print the cover art and put it and the DVD in a plastic case and toss the cardboard case.

At least is had pervy Miyagi to tie it together.
I still hate that part 2 makes Yukie look like a chump for not marrying Sato. Especially after Miyagi had married and had a kid on the way. Yeah, they die, but fuck, she was still gonna pine after him and not get married? And then Miyagi still leaves her behind in Okinawa yet again.

The interiors shot on a bare stage look awesome. It feels like Lars Von Trier's Karate Kid by way of Dogville.

Of all the times I have seen KKI, I never noticed Larry B. Scott. He sure plays a lot of background characters.

I remember KK III being such a flop at the box office in the summer of 1989 that the studio actually offered a double feature of it and Ghostbusters 2 for a matinee ticket price (which was about $3 back then).
And before you ask, yes...I went.

Re: For diehard fans of the Karate Kid (1984)
This thread inspired me to do a Karate Kid marathon. I watched the first movie tonight. I will watch KKII tomorrow and KKIII on Wednesday.
One thing that has always bothered about the first movie is that guy who befriends Daniel when Daniel first moves into the new apartment. The guy invites Daniel to the beach party, and then after that party he is never seen or heard from again. He pulled a Behrooz (from 24).

Is it common to do rehearsals for entire movies?

Yes! It's so amazing. Loved watching that. Karate Kid is my favorite all-time movie.
Also suggest watching the Cobra Kai Ice Bucket Challenge:

I'm heading to a screening this weekend with Macchio, Zabka, and Kove. Can't wait!

There are almost always complete read throughs and rehearsals, but I've never seen or heard of anything like this. They shot on the actual locations that they intended to use in the film! This is a guess but I think the director probably felt that the young cast would find it helpful to run though the entire film in order to be prepared, and it gave him the opportunity to pre-visualize.
