Selected markets had a late (4 PM EDT) football game. It ran over so pad any CBS shows tonight by 15 minutes (or more) if you are in one of those markets. See scroll on cbs.com or any of the shows facebook pages for details of affected markets and the pad.
I hate this weekly pad issue.

i didn't quite get why all the defecting heads of departments left at the same time and rode the elevator down together. wouldn't that tip something off big time?

Looks like they sorta hinted that they went after Cary to make Alica look dirty by association so it would hurt her chances of running. Also seems like he's playing dirty by altering Cary's recorded conversation.
I still think arresting and treating someone like that who used to work for the DA is beyond preposterous.

Plus, it is a TV show, and those kind of things like dramatic staging of the action.

No one at a law firm puts in only 8 hours of work... well, maybe some office staff but no one of importance, thats for sure. They put in 10+ hours a day. =)

And since this was Diane's last planned day of work, it may have been a Friday. Lawyers don't hang around on Fridays.

I was hoping that Alicia would turn it around on the DA. Instead of saying she wasn't running, she should have pretended like she was and told him that it would make him look bad if it came out that he was selectively prosecuting her partner for political gain.

It was an interesting twist. I anticipate many "growing pains" plotlines in the future.

Will the firm change its name from Lockhart-Gardner-Canning, especially if one of the founders is a name partner at another firm? I know lawyering is a lot about personal relationships, but even doctors don't appear to trade on their names as much as lawyers.
So does Bishop have to hold off on killing his associates until the trial? And what are the chances those guys are going to hang around after what happened to the other guy?

But they have the wire. Cary needs a witness to testify that the tape was doctored. If they are all dead, then only Cary will be the one asserting he never said the things the edited tape makes it sound like.

I guess you dont know how lawyers hours work... they dont fall under the normal labor law. They work base on billable hours and believe me I work at a law firm lawyers dont leave early on "Friday's".
Anyway, its a show and in real life no way in hell that would happen w/o someone noticing and dropping a dime.

I also know that the dramatic exit was staged that way because it is a TV show.
The subtext of them all leaving at 5pm was that they would not be drawing attention to themselves because they had all completed a normal work day.
I'm guessing that at real corporate law firms the name partners aren't the ones rushing into court to litigate motions, but Juliana Margulies just sitting in her office and giving associates marching orders probably would not captivate audiences.

If these lawyers know for certain, even before the fact, that Bishop is a killer, to the point where they do not reveal information to him, it really is ethically questionable why they have him as a client.

They'll still need to authenticate the recording. Typically that is done using the person who was wearing the wire.

Bishop is a great character. I hesitate to want to see the actor out of character (late night TV, etc.) lest it dampen the impact. The scene with him watching his son play sports wasn't perfect, but it did serve to show that cultured "bad" guys still do things the rest of us do.
This show deserves way better than to be batted around CBS's Sunday night schedule.

Without dissing Parenthood or Scandal, The Good Wife is the only real prestige drama on network TV. It is the kind of complicated, character-driven drama that handles ripped-from-the-headlines storylines that appeals to sophisticated adult viewers (and no one else).
10-15 years ago, The Good Wife would not only have been a lock for a Best Drama Emmy nomination, it would have been a perennial front runner for the trophy. Now, it can't crack the lock that cable series' have on the category, even with a sixth slot added.
By airing The Good Wife on Sunday, CBS is signalling that the show is to be thought of as in the same class as the HBO, AMC and Showtime dramas that exclusively premiere on Sunday nights. Sunday night is still the most watched night of TV. And Sunday NFL football provides the largest possible audience to promote the show.
Of course if CBS thought that The Good Wife could consistently draw the audience that the NCISes and CSIs do, it would air in a more stable time, but The Good Wife had its chance on Tuesdays and did not perform.

All valid points. My comment wasn't about the business behind the decision, but about how I as a fan of the show feel about what results from the decision.
In my perfect world, there would be a live post show following football which can pad the schedule. That show would be longer or shorter depending on how long the game runs. Then the following shows could start on schedule. At this point, overruns are not exactly aberrations. It's slightly irritating to me they don't plan for it.
That said, I go out of my way and DVR the whole block.

RIP Lockhart - Gardner - Canning
Although I'm still struggling with the ridiculous Cary in jail storyline and what led to it, I did enjoy this episode much more than the season premiere.
I was
everytime Alicia was getting pushed about the State's Attorney thing. Her interactions with Eli were comedy.

It's irritating that the show's start time gets messed up due to football, but being on Sunday nights is a sign of respect on CBS's part for what the show is, but also a recognition of what the show is not.

Good post. Very solid points that many people who watch the show and complain incessantly about Sunday overrun don't seem to get. I've always thought that moving the show to Sundays where there is so much competition was a sign that CBS truly loves this show.

The title would have have been more suitable for something on the Lifetime network.
Ironically, this show has one of the least, if not the least emotional melodrama of shows. Issues are handled in a mature fashion. Like this episodes scene where Elisha asks Peter to cosign for the loan, and how he responds "Documents never go away".
