Make a bold statement about movies.

The best film Clark Gable ever made and the best film Marilyn Monroe ever made is not only the same film, but the last film either of them ever appeared in.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese both released their last great movie in the late 90s.

I agree with Tarantino. For Scorsese I would say early 90's.

The Big Lebowski is a mediocre movie and The Eagles is one of the greatest bands in rock history.

I'd consider Bringing Out the Dead to be great, his best since Goodfellas, and better than and of his output since.

Movies are pretty great sometimes.

serious answer: If humans really have souls, and you didn't like Gravity, then a soul is something you do not have.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

William Freidkin's The Exorcist and Sorcerer and John Boorman's Deliverance are the best DIRECTED films of the 70"s.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the most influential game changer in horror film history.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

Francis Ford Coppola was the best director of the '70s, but hasn't made a noteworthy film since the '70s.

Edward Norton...Primal Fear, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Fight Club, The 25th Hour, American History X, The Painted Veil, The Illusionist, Leaves of Grass, Stone, Down in the Valley etc...is the best actor of his generation.

If Francis Ford Coppola's entire filmography was stripped of every film he made in the 70's he'd still be a top notch director.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

I look forward to sequels, remakes and movies based on existing properties way more then 'original' movies.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

the imdb 250 truly doesnt matter and even movies with a 1.0 rating can be considered better than that if one likes them more , greatness is relativity.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

If the makers of the 1940s Superman cartoons had made a noir-like Batman animated feature in 1946-47, the entire direction of American animation would have shifted and we would have had anime-like animated features long before the Japanese.

To see what I mean, take a look at the very last of the Superman cartoons, "Secret Agent" (1945), and imagine a Batman feature done in this style:

There is no such thing as a bad movie, only bad viewers.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

Sylvester Stallone should have been shot, stuffed and mounted right after he made Rocky.

This is the closest they've come to doing something like that. They should of just expanded this.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

As much as I/we enjoy them, the current crop of comic book movies is slowly draining Hollywood of whatever fun and originality it had left.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

The best movies of 1977 are Annie Hall and Smokey and the Bandit. Suck it, Star Wars fans.
