So, will Guardians hit $300 million? Looks like it should get about $275 million or so for sure.

Not surprised by EX3 numbers given the leak, but how does this compare to the first and second ones?

Fun while it lasted, but any further installments will be low budget spin-offs, VOD, etc.

Glad Turtles is doing well. I liked the first Expendables but seems like the series is done for now. Hope they forget about the female Expendables movie.

Even with the leak this was never really projected to make more than $20-25 million by any of the sites that do BO tracking. It doesn't help that it is terrible also.

I would think the leak might cost them a few million tops, but nothing significant enough to have made a difference as far as the poor showing overall.
The Ninja Turtles drop wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.

Just saw that Step Up is also Lionsgate. Probably the end for that series, too.
Lucy has $107m now. Wonder if there will be a sequel.

Ahem.
The Expendables II did $85M domestically, but over $220M in international markets.
Step Up Revolution did $35M domestically, but over $105M in international markets.
Most had The Expendables III's opening weekend pegged at $20-25M weeks ago, prior to the leak, based upon the opening weekend of the past two films. It underperformed regardless if millions had already seen it or not. Lionsgate is probably kicking themselves for aiming to get that sweet PG-13 rating. Based upon Let's Be Cops' overpreformance, it clearly shows audiences want some R rated fare.
Step Up All In has already done over $40M in international markets despite its weak domestic performance. I would also be surprised if it cost more than $30M to produce as it looks "cheaper" than the past two entries (which were also 3D, which also had $30M budgets).
Based upon how these films do internationally, I wouldn't call either franchise dead yet.

From Box Office Guru:
Fourth place belonged to the film with the most star power in the history of the medium, The Expendables 3. Seriously, is there another film that could boast this kind of lineup? The only one I can think of that might come close is X-Men: Days of Future Past. Led by megastars Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford and others, The Expendables 3 opened to an estimated $16.2M. There are 17 actors listed above the title on the promotional poster which means the movie made less than $1M per person. This isn't a scientific observation, just a very humorous one. While the series was never meant to get into megablockbuster range, this opening has to be seen as very disappointing. The first two films in the series opened to $34.8M and $28.6M. Cinemascore was an A- which is decent and means that people who wanted to see the film enjoyed it, it's just that not many people wanted to see it.

Happy to see Expendables tank. I just wish Stallone would retire already.

I think the gimmick behind the Expendables was always weakened by adding in all these MMA guys and athletes, or young guys like Kellan Lutz who don't come from an action background. It's one thing if they're in the movie, but another to be putting their names on the poster. Hell, even Kelsey Grammer and Robert Davi - great actors, but not 'above the title action stars'.

I think it's more that when you overcrowd the movie so much, there just isn't enough for everybody to do. Half the stars they've brought along have basically been glorified cameos-Rourke, Daniels, Austin, Adkins, Arnold, Norris, Willis, Ford, Li in 2&3, Grammer, have all most been there to appear and be famous then leave.

Guardians was back at #1 yesterday.

Has a film ever dropped from number one and then gone back up? In sure this isn't the only example, but I'd imagine such an occurrence is few and far between?

I can't recall what movie(s) did it, but there have been a few instances of films hitting #1, dropping to #2 or #3, and then reclaiming the #1 spot after a week or two.

Frozen did it.

It happens a LOT during the week, like this. It's more rare for a movie to be #1 for a weekend and reclaim it. If it weren't for Sin City this weekend, Guardians would be #1 again.
