Somebody wrote an article about "10 Most Overrated Films of all time"

Found this relatively recent article and … always these thoughts hibernated in the back of my mind as watery soup, now the thoughts are at last validated with this list but only the English speaking ones though, the others have not seen.
#1 yes, glad that reality is setting in on this movie because it was The World Is Not Enough redux featuring a 006 clone. So much for bringing in something new, when the BrozEra for all its mindlessness brought in new things.

Glad to see The Departed on the list, but Inception? Overrated to be sure, but they apparently didn't have the guts to choose the much more obvious and appropriate Chris Nolan film.
Oh, and here's the list for anyone who doesn't care to read the whole article:
10. The Departed (Martin Scorsese, 2006)
9. Videodrome (David Cronenberg, 1983)
8. The Double Life of Véronique (Krzysztof Kieslowski, 1991)
7. Slumdog Millionaire (Danny Boyle, 2008)
6. Ikiru (Akira Kurosawa, 1952)
5. Million Dollar Baby (Clint Eastwood, 2004)
4. Amarcord (Federico Fellini, 1973)
3. Inception (Christopher Nolan, 2011)
2. Network (Sidney Lumet, 1976)
1. Skyfall (Sam Mendes, 2012)

I've been on the Skyfall is overrated bandwagon for awhile now. Not that it's bad or anything, but nothing particularly amazing.
I still like Inception

I agree with The Departed, Skyfall, Million Dollar Baby, and Slumdog Millionaire. Inception seems to me to get plenty of hate.

The only ones I wholeheartedly agree with are The Departed and Slumdog Millionaire. I partially concur with Skyfall and Network, but the writer's suggestion to skip Network in favor of Bamboozled destroys all credibility there. Personally, I would have added The English Patient and Crash (the racially-themed one) to the list.

I really liked The Departed, Videodrome, Ikiru, and Inception. Haven't seen the rest.
I would say The Dark Knight was more overrated than some of the films on that list. I really enjoyed that movie but without Ledger's performance the movie is much less interesting, save for the big rig chase. I wasn't emotionally vested in the romance between Bruce and Rachel to care what happened. The film felt much too long, especially with the boat scene, and then the Joker having hostages in that building.
I thought the Titanic wasn't that great, even when I first saw it.

Laughable list. I don't likeVideodrome, but does it belong on a top-ten overrated list? Many film critics didn't like it either.
Citizen Kane would belong on an overrated list, simply because it is #1 on virtually every "top-10 films" list.

Way better choice than most there. I'm not going to be super-popular for this, but I'd put The Shining on the list as well -- not a terrible film, but as overrated as they get. I'd probably also add Avatar - previous All-Time Box Office champs The Godfather, Star Wars, E.T., and Titanic remain iconic and will likely stay so for another century. Avatar came out less than five years ago and is almost completely forgotten as a piece of popular culture, let alone as cinematic achievement. I saw a huge display for the re-release at Wal-Mart yesterday and couldn't imagine who it was for - that film is already irrelevant.
Network is almost impossible to judge in 2014; it's visionary for when it made in 1976. The world is a very different place now. A female TV exec now would be no big deal, but 40 years ago it was probably beyond comprehension. And Reality TV has way eclipsed anything Patty could have dreamed up, but that doesn't negate what he created.

Someone on the Internet writes one of these articles at least every 10 minutes to grind his gears. "Overrated" is the most overused word on the Internet.

Kurosawa and "overrated" should never be on the same page, let alone the same paragraph. When the author of that list sees IKIRU again after he turns 50, I'm betting he'll kick himself in the ass.

His Million Dollar Baby argument doesn't make any sense. He says the film plays better today than it did when it was new and yet this somehow means it has an overrated reputation how exactly?
And the things he says about Fellini are ridiculous and insulting. Calling the film masturbation and then insinuating something about the young actors. Uncalled for.
That being said I do agree with some of his "see instead" suggestions. But even there I must acknowledge that Paprika is a shitty film. He's not the first critic to sight that piece of anime as an alternative to Inception. But honestly neither film is that memorable.

Tim Robey obviously has an axe to grind with James Bond.
If you want to talk overrated, let's talk THE ENGLISH PATIENT. Let's talk AMERICAN BEAUTY. Let's talk LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING.
