Discovery reveals details, premiere date for 'Deadliest Catch' in 2014

Originally it was reported the Cornelia Marie would not be on the show, but now it looks like it is on. And I am real curious about Sig Hansen's daughter joining (yeah yeah, no jokes) because I can't remember the last female deckhand. And Sig is a hardass.

Oh, and if there is no Elliot Neese or Scott Campbell, I am very much ok with that.

On March 12, TV By the Numbers and the Discovery Channel revealed details and the highly anticipated premiere date for the landmark tenth season of “Deadliest Catch,” one of the network’s most popular shows. The fleet of crab fishermen returns in 2014 on April 22 with new challenges, new faces, and new ocean adventures that challenge even the most seasoned veterans of the Bering Sea.

In anticipation of the big premiere of “Deadliest Catch,” Discovery plans on airing a recap special that begins at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15. The following week, “The Bait,” will air at 8 p.m. on April 22 to give fans an insider look at the upcoming premiere episode, as told by the boat captains. They’ll talk fishing, high seas drama and what’s in store this season, the tenth for “Deadliest Catch.”

The new season premieres at 9 p.m. EST and PST on April 22 on the Discovery Channel. In 2014, “Deadliest Catch” will focus on both veteran skippers and new young guns like Josh Harris and Mandy, Captain Hansen’s 18-year-old daughter. This season, Phil's son, Josh Harris, returns as captain and owner of the Cornelia Marie. Can he continue his father’s legacy? There are also big changes on the Northwestern, run by Sig Hansen. When his daughter joins the crew, will the captain be able to treat her equally in a harsh world that's dominated by men?

In the 2014 premiere episode, the opening of crab season comes and goes when the captains are grounded by politics. For the first time in nearly two decades, a government shutdown brings Washington, D.C. to a screeching halt - with its far-reaching effects going well beyond the nation's capitol.

Eventually the shutdown ends, but it’s just the beginning of excruciating and backbreaking work for the captains and their crews. Up against a ticking clock of a shortened season, a late start means greater competition than ever before. With a deadline to offload looming and millions of dollars on the line, the captains must lay down the hammer and fish through treacherous weather in hopes of catching their crab on time. With less time and their income at stake, how much can they push their crews before major injury – or even death – strikes?

With the stakes greater than ever, it isn’t long before drama hits the Bering Sea. A boat goes up in flames; another runs aground while many more earn record-breaking profits. When the smoke clears, one captain finds himself in rehab and another wakes up in a hospital. Forty-foot waves, hurricane force winds, heavy-machinery, and massive icebergs are just a few reasons that no season is ever the same on “Deadliest Catch.” Surrounded by death and a multitude of injuries, these brave men struggle to return from man’s oldest journey alive.

The 10th season of “Deadliest Catch” premieres at 9 p.m. EST and PST on April 22, 2014 on Discovery Channel. For a preview, be sure to check out the video above.

Real nice, in-depth piece on EW about the new series.

Sadly, Elliot and Jr. are indeed back.
