While visiting her ailing grandmother (June Squibb) in the hospital, Hannah (Lena Dunham) is surprised by a strange request from her mother (Becky Ann Baker). Later, Hannah shares an uncomfortable drink with Rebecca (Sarah Steele), her overachieving med student cousin.
