Vikings -- Season 2 Discussion Thread -- 2/27/14

Synopsis:

The battle begins between Ragnar and King Horik's forces against Jarl Borg. Borg is joined by Rollo, and this Viking clash pits brother against brother. There can only be one victor. Meanwhile, Princess Aslaug makes her way to Kattegat and brings with her a surprise that leaves Ragnar in a difficult predicament.

10 episode 2nd season

I know a lot of you are probably majorly backed up on your programs and this may not get watched right away. Going to try to keep doing this as weekly.

I have 2-3 more episodes to watch from the Vikings season 1 BD before I can join in.

If you're still behind on this and need time to catch up,

Season 1 is on Amazon Prime

History channel still has season 1 episodes online.

Sepinwell gave it a positive review.

He also acknowledged that there are so many shows premiering/returning this week that it's pretty much impossible for him to mention and cover everything.

Spartacus-lite, but I still enjoy it.

I re-watched the last two episodes from the first season just to jog my memory and damn if this isn't still my favorite show from last year. Looking forward to tonight.

I started watching last night, but didn't quite remember what happened last season. I saw that season 1 was available on history channel's website, so I figured I'd watch the last episode or two again as a refresher.

Just noticed that history channel's website took down all the first season episodes today.

I'm looking forward to Lagertha becoming a shield maiden if the previews are to be believed. Ragnar bores me witless but the surrounding characters more than make up for it.

I've thought about watching this but haven't yet. Side note, I hate that song in the promos for the show.

Rollo is a way more interesting character than Ragnar. And that guy is a fucking man-mountain. Ragnar also needs to ditch that stupid haircut.

Lagertha was a shield maiden before she married Ragnar; more of a shield MILF, now.

I don't understand what Lagertha is so upset about. Didn't Ragnar offer to uh.... "share" her with the Christan priest in the first season? I seem to recall a couple of men did. And then there was that orgy at the sacred place where the sacrifices were done... but now she's upset? I'm confused.

It seemed like a blink and miss it moment, did you guys notice that the law man was holding the same coin that Ragnar showed his son? I took it that Ragnar paid him to not give his brother a death sentence.

Yeah, he bribed him. They made such a point of showing the coin when the son asked about it I knew we would see it again.

More happened in this episode than in entire seasons of most shows.

This felt extremely hollow to me as a plot point. I'm not sure marital fidelity was really expected of Viking leaders in that era. This show is set in a pagan era, her response felt like a modern cultural attitude wrongly inserted to drive the conflict.

Vikings -- "Invasion" -- 3/06/14

Four peaceful years have since passed with Ragnar as Earl. The time has come for an unlikely alliance to band together in pursuit of a common goal--a new raid on England. A storm pushes the Viking fleet to a new destination, and on the beaches of Wessex, Ragnar and his men may have met their match.

Re: Vikings -- "Invasion" -- 3/06/14

No Lagertha this episode.

I'm assuming from the previews that she'll be back with a vengeance and that Bjorn will be played by a new actor due to the four year jump in the story.

really smart to leave 2 former enemies behind in your territory while you go off raiding.
