Awesome episode last night. Probably one of the most intense self contained episodes of POI.
It reminded me a lot of that Halle Berry movie "The Call"
The kidnapping, along with the antagonizing phone calls to the 911 operator added a lot of tension. Thought it was interesting how the kidnapping tied into the operator's back story.

This was an excellent episode. I loved Fusco begrudgingly acclimating to his role as hot shot senior detective. Loved how the team and the cases came together. And it seems this show finally has its equivalent of the Riddler (or Calculator, once he got rid of the silly buttons on his chest). Best of all, no Root.

Another thing I forgot to mention.
I liked that this episode didn't completely wrap up. The mystery caller is still out there and is a potential future adversary to Finch. I liked the end how he called Finch one more time and said he's still out there.
Even though the HR arc is done, I like how this show continues to produce another villain to appear again.

very cool episode. i laughed at how everyone was asking Fucsco for help on their cases. also liked that they keep the villain from getting apprehended.

I found this episode terribly derivative of a movie like The Call. Almost everything happened in a neat and predictable formula.
I'm also a bit unhappy with the general direction of Reese's character. It's moved from a show about Reese to an ensemble show. Fewer and fewer of the plotlines revolve around him anymore. I have much less interest in Reese as a mindless tool of Finch's work with the numbers.

This show really pointed up the basic flaw in the premise of the show - since the machine basically covers the entire world, why does it only kick out one case at a time instead of tens or hundreds of thousands every day? Even just in New York, why not hundreds or even thousands a day? Why did it miss the girls murder in the first place? Why do Finch and Reese and company only give a shit about the denizens of NYC? And I agree about moving the focus off Reese - especially when they just skip him doing serious ass kicking like the bar scene this episode.

The Machine obviously gives them cases they can most likely handle in a reasonable timeframe with the assets they have in place. It would be counterproductive to warn them of every act of violence it perceives. Also, it is clearly not omnicient given how close Control and others have gotten to Reese and Finch without the Machine's foreknowledge.

Once I accepted Reese can't be beat in hand to hand combat by any # of bad guys I had no issue with any other premise the show is built upon.

Didn't Finch mention in this episode that there are some things that happen too quickly for even the machine to warn them of?
I like how there is now an evil Finch running around.
I know that previews are verboten here for the most part, but for anyone that does watch them, next weeks episode looks real good.
