Console Wars (Sega vs. Nintendo story) coming to CBS All Access
Written & Directed by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg ("This is the End", "The Interview")
In 1990, Nintendo had a virtual monopoly on the video game industry. Sega, on the other hand, was just a faltering arcade company with big aspirations and even bigger personalities. But that would all change with the arrival of Tom Kalinske, a man who knew nothing about videogames and everything about fighting uphill battles. His unconventional tactics, combined with the blood, sweat and bold ideas of his renegade employees, transformed Sega and eventually led to a ruthless David-and-Goliath showdown with rival Nintendo.
The battle was vicious, relentless, and highly profitable, eventually sparking a global corporate war that would be fought on several fronts: from living rooms and schoolyards to boardrooms and Congress. It was a once-in-a-lifetime, no-holds-barred conflict that pitted brother against brother, kid against adult, Sonic against Mario, and the US against Japan.
-----------
Produced by Scott Rudin ("The Social Network"), Rogen and Goldberg are adapting Blake J. Harris' novel, "Console Wars", which tells the corporate battle between Sega and Nintendo. Rogen and Goldberg will be writing and directing the film, after they finish post-production on The Interview, developing Sausage Party, along with producing other films and TV shows. So we'll see when this truly begins.

I don't know about that writing/directing team, but the concept alone is interesting enough.

The process is much more streamlined, now the console wars are fought by angry gamers on the internet.

So how does something like this work, do both Nintendo and Sega have to agree to the movie for them to be able to use actual games/consoles?
At least there's a built in sequel, with the rise of Sony and the failed deal with Nintendo (then the rise of Microsoft after they pretty much spent their way into relevance like they are wont to do)

If anyone has a passing interest in the subject, I highly recommend The Ultimate History of Video Games.
The Nintendo/Sega rivalry was great, but I found the Atari stuff far more interesting.

Speaking of Atari, is that project with Leonardo DiCaprio as Nolan Bushnell ever going to get made?

Recently I've been thinking a movie about the early days of Nintendo in America based on the book Game Over, focused on Minoru Arakawa (son in law of Hiroshi Yamauchi) and Howard Lincoln and featuring the Donkey Kong and Tetris lawsuits would have been great. How they went from a low rent operation trying to convince people to put Donkey Kong into arcades, to being a juggernaut by the end of the 80's. But this could be good too.
There are some interesting stories from back then, such as Congressional hearings about violent video games (of which Joe Lieberman was a part of) where both sides kept trying to downplay their own content, and during one session, someone from Sega's team pulled out a Nintendo Super Scope and was like "Yeah, their games come with a bazooka."

I wanna see a movie about Atari Vs. Intellivision.
I was a big Nintendo fanboy though, as Donkey Kong supplanted Pac-Man as my favorite game when it came out. I later was among the first in my area to buy the NES. My loyalty switched to Sega though when their Genesis system came out in the US before the Super Nintendo- I knew that it was already out in Japan, but Nintendo's "market research" had found that we just weren't ready for a better game system yet- we were, however, ready for a crappy black and white portable system, the Game Boy. I found that extremely insulting. Sega of course ended up blowing it in the end by putting out the Saturn which had GREAT potential but gave it lousy support, then killed it for the Dreamcast which had even lousier support and I never got suckered into buying.

The Dreamcast is still one of my favorite consoles, and had features that were one or even two generations ahead of the rest of the pack: personal screen on the controller, out of the box network support. Shenmue and Jet Grind Radio alone were worth a system purchase.

Lets not forget Capcom vs. SNK 1 and Marvel vs Capcom 2. The DC version was the definitive version of it and still why I kept the DC out. Then they out them out on 360 and PS3, which I think were solid too. I think those had no issue. PS2 and Xbox got weak versions of them.

Howabout a story of Gunpei Yokoi who created Metroid, the Gameboy, before getting killed by some car. Genius guy.

Did he die in a car accident because the way you phrased it made it sound like a car actively murdered him.
