Locke (4/18/14) D: Knight S: Tom Hardy

Ivan Locke has worked hard to craft a good life for himself. Tonight, that life will collapse around him. On the eve of the biggest challenge of his career, Ivan receives a phone call that sets in motion a series of events that will unravel his family, job, and soul. Directed Locke is a unique cinematic experience that literally puts the audience in the passenger’s seat to watch the driver’s life unfold.

"D: Knight S: Tom Hardy"

I initially thought "They're doing another Dark Knight movie and Bane is the lead character?"

Had to Wikipedia the director. He's the writer of Eastern Promises, seems like this is his debut film.

Oooooh.

Trailer isn't popping up for me at work. I'll check it out later.

It's Hardy and set solely in a car, so I'll give it a whirl. Not sure what accent he's going for, though.

This reminds me alot of "Buried" with Ryan Reynolds. I liked Buried, but also thought it was overhyped.

Looking forward to seeing this.

It's not his directorial debut. His debut was Redemption, with Jason Statham and that flick is excellent. It went on my Top-10 of last year.

Locke opened in limited release here in L.A.

I was at The Landmark in West LA and this was playing there. I was so tempted to see it, but saw Only Lovers Left Alive. It's been there for a min so wanted to catch it before it left. Locke, for sure next weekend.

Saw this today and it's definitely Top-10 material. 2014 is shaping up to be year of the badass indy flicks.

well thank god this was only under 90 minutes - didn't get a lot of sleep last night, and I was struggling to keep awake during this, at least the popcorn helped ... somewhat. I nodded off ever so slightly near the end, what happened with Donal and the whole cementing project

Spoiler:
He was able to sort it out. Donal ran over to the Polish chaps that Locke suggested and paid then to come back and help with the project.

What did you like about it?

Saw it with my fiancé this weekend at the Arclight and we both hated it. We joked on the drive home from LA that a movie studio could have mounted a camera on any one of the cars we were passing on the 101 and gotten a story that was more interesting than the one we'd just watched. Hardy was disappointingly ho-hum, the female characters were paper-thin, Hardy's character was impossible to root for, the ending was groan-inducing, and the entire thing felt gimmicky, long (despite the short run-time), and dull.

Soundtrack was great, however.

I liked it. Didn't know the exact nature of the phone calls going in, so I expected some kind of Phone Booth shit, but this was good drama. And weird to see Silas Carson (i.e. random Star Wars PT characters) show up in the voice credits. Ruth Wilson was nice.

Re: Locke (4/18/14) D: Knight S: Tom Hardy

I am not sure how i feel after seeing this movie. Part of me liked the pacing, the way it was filmed, certainly the soundtrack and the down to earthiness of the movie. However, at the same time i found it plodding, the story to be paper thin, the characters to be one dimensional, Hardys Welsh accent to be pretty bad, and the less said about the ending the better.

I guess i would say its an average movie at best that so badly wants to be seen as an Indie masterpiece. I was disappointed.

Re: Locke (4/18/14) D: Knight S: Tom Hardy

I feel the same, saw it a couple days ago and keep flip flopping. One moment I'm thinking that was really solid, great performance by Hardy, good score, well shot, etc....then a minute later I'm thinking it was just a guy on the phone for 90 minutes, it wasn't that interesting.

I'll settle for somewhere in the middle. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars on Netflix.

Re: Locke (4/18/14) D: Knight S: Tom Hardy

I did not care for this. It put me to sleep. It was shot well, and the music was good, but the story is just shit. I'm supposed to care about concrete? I know that wasn't the gist of it... but overall it was not interesting. And Hardy's accent was so annoying to me.

Sounded like he had a stopped up nose the entire movie.

Say 'I don't have time for this' squeezing your nose. That's what he sounded like.

Saw it tonight and also gave it 3/5. Thought the first half was good but the "concept" eventually wore out its welcome and started becoming tedious, especially when the phone calls started drifting in all kinds of directions. This is the type of movie that relies a lot on the acting and script to carry it. The acting I thought was great, but the script was weak.
