Sid Caesar has died
What a career.
Sid Caesar, one of the first stars created by television via his weekly live comedy program “Your Show of Shows,” has died at 91. TV host Larry King announced the news on Twitter.
Caesar, partnered with Imogene Coca, is credited with breaking ripe comedic ground with the 90-minute live program: It didn’t rely on vaudeville or standup-inspired material but rather on long skits and sketches written by an impressive roster of comedy writers including Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Neil Simon, Larry Gelbart, Lucille Kallen and Mel Tolkin.

A Legend. He also had a kick ass goatee for the last decade or so.

I wonder how many times they've had to re-edit the In Memorium video for this year's Oscar in the last two weeks.

I always knew the name...but never knew who it was. But he was the coach in Grease.... and won "all the money" in Vegas Vacation.

My copy of the Criterion Blu-ray of IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD arrived yesterday. Who's left from the main cast of that film (i.e. those involved in the actual pursuit of the $)? Only Mickey Rooney at this point.

This is the most stacked Oscar In Memoriam year ever and you still have Olivia DeHavilland who is in Hospice care and could pass any day now. I could realistically see them Fawcetting Sid Ceaser and Oscar winner Gabriel Axel.

RIP Sid Caesar. I admit that I really wasn't familiar with his work outside of his bit part in Grease, but I knew he was considered a legend in comedy.

Yup. lil' Brainfart there. I actually wouldn't be surprised if PSH will get his own segment the way John Hughes did.
I've noticed that in the past few years that the Memoriam segement seems to focus more on people who are more unknown to the public like screenwriters, art directors and execs lately.
I remember that the 80's/90's Oscar shows mostly had nothing but actors.

This one hurts. I grew up on Caesar's sketches. A brilliant, groundbreaking comedian whose influence can be felt all over comedy today. I'll have to watch My Favorite Year again soon.

Amazing movie. Even Cousin Larry couldn't ruin it. I know it was based on Your Show of Shows, but was Sid involved in the actual movie? I haven't seen it in years.
