The Arthur C Clarke DVD Collection $19.99

http://amzn.com/B00C25352Q

In over 50 episodes, acclaimed sci-fi author Sir Arthur C Clarke (2001: A Space Odyssey) investigates inexplicable, confronting and puzzling wonders. Clarke sets out to take away the confusion to try and find some reasonable explanation for some of the weirdest events ever known. Includes 52 episodes of 3 UK Sci-Fi Series : Mysterious World (1980) 13 Episodes Mysterious Universe (1994) 26 Episodes World of Strange Powers (1985) 13 episodes.

It appears this relatively new, 8-disc DVD release (it just came out last July) is being sold from the original distributor through Amazon's Fulfillment program for $19.99. It lists at $70 and has never been this cheap before on any other site. I guess it hasn't sold well if the manufacturer is lowering it this much this soon.

A great program for those into mysteries and strange phenomena, very much in the same vein as In Search Of or History's Mysteries.

Thanks! if it wasn't for both Shipping AND Sales Tax, I'd be in also. The lame USA congress doesn't get it, that the tax we pay in B&M's is less than internet shipping. Amazon needs to bribe he congress more than Walmart already does.

I considered buying it but I went to VEI web site and it is listed at 29.99 and looks more like a price reduction than a big sale. It might take it awhile but I would imagine other places will have it for around the same or maybe lower in the future.

How are those things related? The government doesn't get the money you pay for shipping.

I have Prime, so the shipping is free. This item doesn't get charged tax in most states, Amazon doesn't charge tax for third-party sellers except in a small handful of states.

I thought it said, "fulfilled by Amazon". They hit me tax on those items.

Congress is more & more passing the laws requiring internet sellers to collect sales tax in states where the item is not being shipped from.

Re: The Arthur C Clarke DVD Collection $19.99

I bit on this along with the Casablanca/African Queen Blu 2 pack @ $8.96 that Lizard posted
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...=nosim/dvdtalk
& an incredible pre order deal on the new Jack Bruce import only cd at $6.48
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HYGTVTE/

Got me over $35 to get the free ship. I was charged tax on 2 of the 3 items.

Mine arrived this evening. I'll watch one during this Snowmegeddon if I don't lose power.

Re: The Arthur C Clarke DVD Collection $19.99

So after you speckled this thread with comments about taxes and congress this turns out to be a blind buy for you? I honestly don't mean to be rude, but did you even read the item description? It's a set of British produced television series shot mostly in the 80's and narrarated by renowned science fiction writer and inventor.

If by "less boring" you mean transforming robots, explosions and night vision filmed jump scares, then no, it does not.

No, I simply mean interesting, & yes it was a blind buy. The problem with a blind buy of something produced by a great author at 75% off is.............?

Are these OAR = 1.33:1? One of the reviewers on Amazon speaks of 'formatting issues'. Hopefully they're not cropped 16:9 transfers? Please confirm, anyone who owns the set. Much appreciated.

BTW: IN SEARCH OF... price has dropped like a rock. Amazon now sells the complete set for only $59.95!

They are 1.33:1 - OAR. Typical visual quality of 80s British TV documentary production.

That $59.95 price for In Search Of... is from VEI and fulfilled by Amazon. Amazon's price is a few $$ higher.

Some episodes are better than others and I don't much care for the series World of Strange Powers. For the most part I find the others interesting but generally a bit too short for the subject matter, especially those that cram in as many as 3 different oddities. It's actually interesting to hear Clark's comments at the end of each episode. On some he pretty much says "what you've seen is total crap - couldn't happen." They *do* tend to be very "dry" but that's farily typical of British documentary productions of those years.

It's definitely a drier show than In Search Of, it's a traditional British production through and through of its era. Pick the topics you'll be interested in, some of the episodes are misses.

Re: The Arthur C Clarke DVD Collection $19.99

It is getting a little better. The 1st episode is a teaser for the rest of the series or season (which I wasn't aware of at the time) & presents such brief bits of everything that I was really bored by it.

I agree with Bob that even on the regular episodes the #1 problem is the segments are too short.
