Comes out today. Not well received by critics (29%).

Here's the trailer for anyone interested.

Saw it. I thought it had something interesting going for it. I think it tries hard to be strong but falters in handling too many issues the characters have to face. Also it really nosedives into cliche in the 3rd act. Like it's going fine for the most part, shaky but mostly steady, but then hits a nosedive hard into the ground in the 3rd act. Add in that early on a cliche element comes forward and it sticks around for the whole movie, like it's TOO obvious to NOT guess something is going to happen with it. Damn you, RoboCop.

I enjoyed it for the most part. Not great, it's alright. I admire what it was going for but it's a rental or a early morning theater type of thing.

Was the book any good?

Yeah, I missed this in theaters and watched it to night. It suffers from way too many subplots.

Hell,
Spoiler:
the Child 44 (44th victim aspect of the film is almost a diversion
for the bigger picture.

On an acting and technical level the film is fine but the main guts of it suck. I wonder if the novel was a bit more focused than the film?

I do think Daniel Espinosa is an ok director but he needs to get a hold of stronger material for his next film.

I thought it was alright, lots of drama and good performance from the cast. Focused more on the relationships between the characters than the murders but still good! 7/10 worth a watch on a quiet night

I'd give it an 8/10. Ran a little long and it was really slow. But worth a rental.

The last time I saw a narrative like Child 44 was Black Dhalia. I actually liked BD much more. No one else did, though.

I love how the movie keeps evolving. The flavour and atmosphere in the beginning of the movie evolves and changes constantly. If you skipped to the end of the movie, you couldn't predict what happened in the events of the film because it is so complex. I give it a 9/10 - it's a good movie but if you're watching it for action, you may want to skip this one. It's half an escape film and half a detective film.
