How I Met Your Mother - "Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmara" - 1/13/14
"Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmara" - In an attempt to deliver a devastating final slap to Barney, Marshall explains how he mastered the Slap of A Million Exploding Suns, on the final season of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, Monday, Jan. 13 (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Stacy Keibler returns as Karina.

The final slap! I've been looking forward to this almost as much as I have the mother. I knew they wouldn't gyp us out of the last one.

Wow! They really advanced the show along a lot. Didn't feel like filler at all! Ted's probably going to meet the mother next week!

I loved it so immediately I knew most everyone here would hate it. First memorable episode in the last season and a half.
Fuck yes. It was beyond absurd but that's why it worked. Just a silly and fun way to spend 22 minutes. This is supposed to be a fun show and this whole season focusing on the wedding has dragged it down.

Put me down as another person who loved it. This show has never, ever, really been about meeting the mother or advancing a grand story arc. It's always been about the relationships between these five people, and this episode highlighted that perfectly.

I am shocked how many people don't get that. It's like walking out of Pulp Fiction being upset that you never got to see what's in the briefcase. Who cares? That's not what the movie is about.

EEhhhhhh, I wouldn't go THAT far. It's more like the experiences Ted gains through the years to be able to not only meet the mother, but be in a place in his life where he can have a long lasting relationship with her.
But since Ted has remained the same horrible person who, at this final season is still pinning for Robin, he's clearly failed on that account.
I had a few laughs at the Kill Bill inspired slap training, but what the fuck was with the Boyz II Men? I guess I just didn't get that and it felt even more out of place and not the type of fourth wall breakage that I'm use to in HIMYM

Hi guys. Barney said "just like we've never sat on our lef hand until it fell asleep and then used it for an away gamer." What does away gamer mean in this conversation?

Yeah, I don't think 'I didn't get it' -- this show used be fun, light, but fun.
I was glad to see McClaren's again and be away from the Farhampton House of Guest Stars -- and I liked the call backs of actresses who played Barney's exes over the show. I feel they've done a good job for bringing bit players back this season. (Wow, that's what getting me excited about this show now?)
But last night's episode never came together for me. The energy of the show feels forced when they do something absurb now (thinking back to skating party episode this season) and half the cast feels checked out; looking at you NPH.
And all Marshall's intro of Boys II Men was missing was fake audience/Hee-Haw-style applause.
I don't care about moving the show mythology forward. Ted's eternal pining for Robin (ugh), they've shown the mother, they've shown Ted's proposal to her, now it just feels we're killing time for the series finale train to arrive in Farhampton at this point.

This episode was absurd. I loved it.
Still don't understand the Boys II Men showing. Maybe someone lost a bet.
I wonder if Marshall will give the last slap. Not enough time to have another Slaspgiving episode, right?
Or are they saving that for the movie?

I'm all for the fun episodes, but this was just obnoxiously bad for me. The Boyz II Men song was the only part I did like. I think the problem for me is that they filled the whole episode with this one story, and at the end of the day I just didn't find any of it very funny. The kung fu parody idea has been done to death...the initial master reveal was blah and the fact they more or less repeated the same joke two more times just made it worse. And if they had to go this route, I think they missed a prime casting opportunity by not having one of the masters be the villainous Ralph Macchio.
Worst of all, they wasted a slap on this nonsense.

I think that may have been by far the worst episode of the whole series. Dedicating a whole episode to the slap bet is bad - especially the way it was executed... but it's even worse when it's done in the final season. This episode defines the term filler.
Boys 2 Men... you know it's bad when they can't even fill up a filler episode and out of the blue introduce some has-been musicians to kill the remaining couple of minutes.
This followed the best episode of the season, so it feels that much worse.
Horrible, simply horrible.

Loved it. Lots of laughs and I always like when the gang gets into the "capers". And the Boys II Men appearance was a perfect way to end it.

I really liked it, especially Marshall's expressions during the slow-mo of the slaps.
