Director With Best Repeat Viewing Movies

Basically, every time you view a movie by him or her, it gets better and you notice new aspects, whether visual or about characters.

My pick is Quentin Tarantino. Aside from Death Proof, every movie of his gets more interesting every time I watch. His characters are seldom boring, and you just get a sense that they all have a neat back story. Jackie Brown is the best example, as the first time I thought it was okay, but once I began viewing it for what it was (i.e. something that wasn't Pulp Fiction) , it got a lot better.

Re: Director With Best Repeat Viewing Movies

If you're talking about directors whose work rewards repeated viewings with deeper understanding, I would say Kubrick, Tarkovsky, Miike, Jodorowsky, Lynch.

If you're talking about directors whose films are most compulsively rewatchable, I'd say John Carpenter and Billy Wilder.

Re: Director With Best Repeat Viewing Movies

In terms of getting better and adding depth, I'll add Nolan and Kubrick. For sheer entertainment value, I would go with old school Spielberg and John Carpenter.

I would have to put maybe Hitchcock as most re-watchable.

Re: Director With Best Repeat Viewing Movies

While it seems hip to hate on him now, I think Peter Jackson's movies do well with repeat viewings. I think the Hobbit movies actually got better with each viewing once I started looking at them as their own entities and not an adaptation of the book.

Coen Bros. for me. There are only a handful of theirs that I couldn't watch at any moment.

Of "current" directors and ignoring the obvious classics like Welles or Kubrick, Wes Anderson for me. I watch several of his movies every year or two and keep finding new things to admire.
