Joey Jordison leaves Slipknot
“To our Maggots and fans around the world,
It is with great pain but quiet respect, that for personal reasons Joey Jordison and Slipknot are parting ways. We all wish Joey the best in whatever his future holds. We understand that many of you will want to know how and why this has come to be, and we will do our best to respond to these questions in the near future. It is our love for all of you, as well as for the music we create, that spurs us to continue on and move forward with our plans for releasing new material in the next year. We hope that all of you will come to understand this, and we appreciate your continued support while we plan the next phase of the future of Slipknot.
Thank you,
The ‘Knot”

So are they going to get a new drummer to join the band, or just have some guy hiding backstage playing the drums?

This is my favorite quote someone posted over on the prp.com
"Damn, now there’s gonna be added pressure on the three (?) remaining percussionists (read: idiots that get paid to bang on kegs and jerk the noses on their masks off) to actually hunker down and learn how to actually contribute to the band sonically. We’re down to, what, seven members? Less room for dead weight."
Slipknot will always hold a special place in my heart as they were my gateway into metal. I still listen to their first two albums, and Joey was a big part of those albums. With him and Paul gone I'm not putting much hope into their next album.

Any more info on this?
Reading between the lines of the press release (ie, "parting ways") makes it sound like he was fired, not to mention "We wish [insert name] the best in all of his future endeavors" always has a passive-aggressive ring to it when it's in a press release.
And wasn't he also the most adamant and vocal one about keeping Slipknot together after Paul died?
Methinks there was some drama going on behind the scenes, and a some kind of big 7-to-1 vote.

The band kind of circles the wagons when something big happens. It doesn't help that Scar the Martyr and Slipknot have the same PR person, so it's not any easier for people to get comment from Joey's camp if Slipknot wants to control the message.

I'll be the first to chime in with, "Who leaves what?"
