Odd Thomas (D: Sommers) S: Anton Yelchin - based on Dean Koontz novel
My brother came back from the UK and gave me this movie. This one really flew under the radar. I didn't even know it existed. I read the book awhile back and thought it would make a cool graphic novel and just found out that it existed in that format as well. More info. here:

Re: Odd Thomas
I had no idea this existed ... I read the books and really enjoyed the first one. Always thought it would make a fantastic movie ... I guess it made a buried and forgotten movie.
I think there were two more books -- one had something to do with an abandoned casino and one where he lived with monks. They both lived down to my expectations of Dean Koontz novels (take a pretty good story line, add likable characters, toss in elements of oddness/danger ... and then smoke crack and take the story completely off the rails in a direction that makes no sense).

I found this interesting... "The film was delayed indefinitely in July 2013 because of legal action. Two Out of Ten Productions' alleges that Outsource Media Group kept $25 million which should have been spent on prints and advertising to support a release of Odd Thomas in the U.S., and another $10 million to partially refinance certain loans."
Sounds like someone went out on a limb with the finances, and didn't have a big studio to back it up.
Stephen Sommers is hit and miss. Or I have to be in a certain mood to watch his movies.

I enjoyed the first few books but haven't kept up. I'd watch this for sure.

Small-town fry cook Odd Thomas (Anton Yelchin) is an ordinary guy with a paranormal secret: he sees dead people, everywhere. When a creepy stranger shows up with an entourage of ghostly bodices -- predators who feed on pain and portend mass destruction -- Odd knows that his town is in serious trouble. Teaming up with his sweetheart Stormy (Addison Timlin) and the local sheriff (Willem Dafoe), Odd plunges into an epic battle of good versus evil to try to stop a disaster of apocalyptic proportions.
In theaters and On Demand on February 28.

This is now streaming on Netflix. Not bad, two interesting movies in two days (other being Don Jon)

Just saw this. I really really enjoyed it.
Very unique stuff going in here had a low budget feel to it at times but I didn't mind. It was different from the norm and I liked it.

Finally had the chance to sit and watch it ... WOW. For a movie that had a troubled production and was released without anybody knowing, this was a damn fine looking film!
I would have liked to have seen more of the book left intact, but I think they did a pretty good job of adapting it for a movie. Many of the things I would have liked to have seen left in place would have taken up too much time explaining them.
Anton Yelchin was excellent, but the young lady who played Stormy stole the show. Her portrayal was unbelievably accurate to the character ... she melted my heart!
I do have to question why Stephen Sommers daughter (who is in the movie for a few minutes) got second billing ...

funny that this thread was bumped, as I too just watched this movie... I thought it was really good. I knew nothing of the book... and the ending did leave a little lump in my throat, I must admit.

I liked the books (at least the first 3 I read, I have no idea how many are out now) but wasn't going to see this. Free on Netflix though? I'll check it out.
