Sales tax online for stores that don't exist in your state?

Sales tax online for stores that don't exist in your state?
Am I the only one confused and annoyed when a site that appears to have no presence in my state charges me sales tax anyway? They're not legally required to collect tax unless they have a presence in the state they're shipping to. Is NewEgg the only one with any balls at this point, or what? I find it hard to believe Rockstar Games (Rockstar Warehouse) has an outlet store or warehouse in PA. I can find no indication of one, and my order shipped from another state. Same with WBShop, for that matter. NBCUniversal and FoxConnect don't have tax, but WBShop supposedly has locations in like 25 states!? Their own FAQ says they have NO RETAIL OUTLETS. No way in hell they have that many warehouses. What's the deal? Anyone notice other stores pulling this shit?

technically all they need is a presence. That could simply be a small office of a couple people and they are required to collect tax. I know one company I worked at moved a couple people that worked remotely on the East coast from employees to consultants so they didn't have to collect taxes for those states.

I imagine they'd be in trouble, if they add sales tax but don't pay it to the guv'ment.
Maybe they just have tax ID and incorporated status in all states. It could come in handy when dealing with trademarking, copyrighting, etc.
I'm pretty sure that you're not being scammed out of sales tax.

If they fulfill from a distributor and that distributor has a presence in your state they are required to collect sales tax. Many online retailers buy from multiple distributors so that is probably why many of them collect sales tax there.

I'm not talking about random stores that buy from different sources. I'm talking about the distributors themselves: Warner Bros (WBShop) and Rockstar Games.
