Why So Blu?

I though GDT's upcoming book deserved a thread of its own. I've got a copy on pre-order:

I know someone that works at a local independent bookstore and they get 30% off books, so even if I took advantage of that, I'd still be paying about $500.

Release date is Oct 29th... but amazon.ca has had the hardcover in stock since Oct 18.

The most I've ever paid for a book is $300, and I can't imagine paying more for another book at this point.

I had a chance when it was first released to buy Stephen King's limited edition (500 signed copies) of The Gunslinger for $100 back in the early 80's. Unfortunately the thought of paying that much for a book was unthinkable.

Why So Blu?

The final price I got from my bookstore contact was $490 flat. I'm tempted to make it my one and only Christmas gift. We'll see what happens.

I paid $250-$300 for a limited edition book on Ziggy Stardust, Moonage Daydream, with text by Bowie and photos by Mick Rock.



It's also signed by Bowie and Mick Rock. Now seems to go for $1,000-$2,500 on the secondary market, not that I'm looking to sell it.

I also spent $200 on a copy of American Gods with the author's preferred text, signed by Neil Gaiman. It also came with a reader's copy so you don't actually have to read the expensive version of the book.

This item would probably take up a corner of my pad. It's very impressive.

I started on this last night and it is off the hook. We do go back to his Bleak House and there are more pictures of more of his stuff.
