American Horror Story: Coven -- Season Premiere -- "Bitchcraft" -- 10/09/13

Synopsis:

Chapter 1 / Production #301 - "Bitchcraft" (Airs October 9, 10:00 pm e/p) - A young girl, Zoe, is shattered to discover she possesses a strange genetic affliction tracing back to the dark days of Salem. Zoe is whisked away to Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies, a mysterious school in New Orleans devoted to safeguarding the few remaining descendants who share this unique bloodline. Harboring a secret agenda, Fiona Goode, the most powerful witch of their generation, returns to town, reigniting old rivalries with the Coven's deadly enemies, the Voodoo. Written by Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk; directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.

13 episode 3rd season

If you have not seen the previous 2 seasons or bailed from either of them, you will have no problems watching this. This is a new, self-contained story arc.

I admit, I liked season 1, but wasn't a huge fan of Asylum.

I'm sure many of you are already massively behind on shows, so taking on yet another 13 hour series will be a struggle.

Based on the episode title, Aaron Paul better show up at some point.

Wtf is FX doing, seriously, the two shows I watch on the network regularly air at the exact same time.

Atleast they re-air all their stuff multiple times throughout the night.

My exact sentiment, except I trudged through and finished the second season...

Didn't watch the previous seasons, but I'll tune in tonight. Promos have been interesting and I love me some witches.

Is it correct that every season is standalone?

I don't think there was so much as a jokey reference to Season 1 during Season 2. Completely stand alone.

I am going to give it a try. I never saw Season 1 but watched part of Season 2 and absolutely hated it. Season 2 was one of the few shows that I have ever quit watching in the middle of a season. Didn't miss it at all.

Started w/Season 2, then retro'ed S1. Loved them both and looking forward to this one.

The standalone thing was a little disappointing too. I thought season 1 was going somewhere with an Anti-Christ arc. Like they'd build up five "standalone" seasons, and then go back in season 6. Something like that could have been epic.

Can't complain. This is one of the five-or-so shows that I look forward to.

Save for the Pilot (which was a bit overreaching) Season 1 was much better than Season 2.

I LOVE the fact that AHS seasons are standalone. It's key for a horror-related series, as we have no idea whether or not a character will survive. With any series, unless the actor is leaving the show (or getting fired), you know he/she will be around next week. AHS has cleverly figured out a way to retain actors from season to season, and yet keep the element of danger. Because with the standalone concept, someone could be a corpse this season, and still be back next season as a totally different character.

Not every show needs a grand "mythology". More often than not, it paints the writers into a corner where they HAVE to address the concepts they brought up in early episodes (see: How I Met Your Mother)

Episode was a bit disappointing. But I guess I had high expectations. Should get better.

Yea yea yea. I don't make the shows. But I do like pretending! I would have ended Breaking Bad in a very bleak way. But that's just me.

This premiere was ok for the most part. I think this season will be good after seeing the season preview. I liked season 2 except for a couple of storylines.
