Hell on Wheels -- Season Finale -- "Get Behind the Mule" -- 10/05/13

Synopsis:

In the Season 3 finale, Cullen deals with consequences, and Elam mounts a rescue attempt. Meanwhile, Durant receives Gen. Grant and the U.P. board in Cheyenne ahead of the deadline.

Episode 10/10

No word on whether this will come back for a 4th season. It got better ratings than Low Winter Sun.

For an episode that a lot happened, it was all so incredibly boring. I kept waiting for some twist or turning point towards action but everything felt so lethargic. Honestly, it didn't even feel like a season finale and instead felt like an episode that would lead in towards a season finale.

I hope they didnt end it like that.
It seems the heroes of the show went out in a bitch way. I would expect a massive FB lashing if AMC ends it like that ... actually already happening!
If it was a series finale, it was written all over it. I just hope it isn't.

Glad they revealed how old the Girl was. Was beginning to think Cullen was a pedo

I laughed at that bit. As if he gave a shit back when he nailed her in the barn. Or at least tried to. As I recall, her brother spoiled all the fun before they could get started. I guess Bohannon is quick to pull the trigger.

Oh and, given the time period, I bet the girl was really 14 and the writers had Cullen ask her age so they could have her say 18 and put everyone's mind at ease.

Well, hopefully that wasn't a series finale. Even as a season finale it was pretty damn weak. Maybe they are trying to beat out Deadwood as having the most inconclusive end to a TV series.

That was an odd finale. I hope that wasn't a series ender, but considering what happened I could see that being the case. I'd still watch because I thought the season was good overall.

That was the series finale, it just hasn't been announced yet. They must have run out of money to film the bear attack. AMC will renew Low Winter Sun with the hopes it finds an audience on home video and streaming. Their business strategy entails never canceling a show after one season.

It was a strange seasonal arc, hampered by budgetary restrictions. The first few episodes even had a sort of positive energy to them, though that all petered out with the unusual endings to the baby's story and the Swede's.

As a finale, it was a miserable way to end the series.

Anson Mount tweeted this few hours ago.
Oh, my goodness. So many assumptions. So many criticisms about shoes that may or may have not dropped. Most of the critics it seems have done nothing but try to guess our notices as employees of a network. What if we're just telling a story. And what if... SHOCKER... we haven't finished?

Anson Mount's tweet would be amusing if not for the fact that finale (and the story it told) sucked. This was a great season overall except for whenever the Swede would appear. The actor is great but the character is just plain uninteresting. So it's no surprise that the worst episode of the season would be the one where he had the most prominence. Sadly, the worst episode of the season happened to be the boring as hell season finale.

re: Hell on Wheels -- Season Finale -- "Get Behind the Mule" -- 10/05/13

Odd season for me. Going in I didn't like any of the returning characters other than Bohannon. I was also still really irritated about the killing of Lily Bell at the end of last season, and I knew we would get the ridiculousness of Gundersen, who I never found interesting, being alive.

Even with all the nonsense the show brings week after after week, I still like Bohannon so I still find half the show watchable. As for the finale...eh...at least they followed through with Bohannon immediately trying to kill the Swede the second he saw him, which is what I thought the only honest reaction would be.

I hope it doesn't end on this note. Although it feels like it will.

The Swede needs to get his. Badly.

Totally agree--bad season finale, HORRIFIC if it's the series finale.
Really hope it comes back.

interesting article on Hell on Wheels, which makes it seem like it will likely be back for a S4.

I hope so, it would have been odd to end it like that...

I actually liked the episode. Found it more interesting than most episodes. But of course not as a series finale. Last season's finale would have worked as a series finale if it had been cancelled. I hope it's back and they announce next season will be the last so it can go out on it's own terms.

We watched seasons 2 and 3, a couple of episodes a night over a month or so. I hope this is coming back....

Great news. Renewed for a 4th season. Will return next summer on Saturday nights.

Also got more episodes. 13 as opposed to 10.

Fantastic news!

Now hopefully the Swede gets killed in no later than the 3rd episode.

Awesome ! I never really had a doubt about it not coming back for a 4th, but will say it will probably be the last. I hope it's not. 5 sounds like a good number. Hard part now is waiting until Summer
