Homeland -- Season Premiere -- "Tin Man Is Down" -- 9/29/13

Synopsis:

Season 3 begins with Brody remaining at large, while Carrie is called to testify before a senate committee investigating the terrorist bombing in Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, Saul takes command at the CIA; and the Brody family deal with a tragic occurrence.

12 episode 3rd season

I like the Quinn on this show better than that other Showtime series.

With Breaking Bad ending Sunday, I know this probably won't get watched right away Sunday night.

Re: Homeland -- Season Premiere -- "Tin Man Is Down" -- 9/29/13

Saw this a few weeks ago.
Spoiler:
It goes back to what alot of people liked the first season with the politics and being dialogue driven. Also no Brody at all this episode. Unfortunately we have to deal with what appears to be another horrible Dana storyline, who apparently tried to commit suicide and now is sexting naked pics of herself to some guy she likes(Zach from Dexter season 8)

I understand people had a lot of problems with last season but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. I do hope this grounded a bit more like the first season but this Brodie-on-the-run concept doesn't seem like it will.

I don't like how they're still following Brodie's family. They're useless and the show needs to move on from them.

Agreed. I'd go even further and drop Brody entirely for a season or 2. Bring him back a later day. Let the show flourish and open new story lines.

It is my hope there is a reason for them following the family. I guess time will tell.

Seeing Saul head the agency is by far my most anticipated part.

It's only the first episode and Carrie is already on my nerves.

Brodie's family brings the show to a halt.

The operation and Saul deciding to throw Carrie under the bus at the hearing were the best parts.

Carrie at the hearing reminded me of a kid not only caught with his hand in the cookie jar, but under questioning slowly reaches back in for a 2nd one. Which is not a characteristic I look for in my CIA drama shows.

Fuck, Quinn. Had to kill the kid, accidentally. Damn it. Carrie at the congressional hearing just shows how unhinged she is.

Re: Homeland -- Season Premiere -- "Tin Man Is Down" -- 9/29/13

I think I am done. Pretty much everything I don't like about the show was front and center after the writers had time to think about the direction of the show.

Would be nice to see a Quinn/Strike Back/covert ops spinoff.

Enjoy, fellas!

Re: Homeland -- Season Premiere -- "Tin Man Is Down" -- 9/29/13

Damn man, that was cold. Saul totally sold Carrie out at the Senate hearing. You could really see how betrayed she felt by him.

Best part of the episode was Peter Quinn's covert mission. That was pretty badass. Too bad he accidentally killed that kid. I hope they continue to make him central to the plot.

I can see why some of you don't like the subplot with Brody's family and Dana especially, but I think it's a necessary evil. Brody is still at large and is considered the most wanted man in the U.S. You kind of need to show the residual effects of his actions and the aftermath on his family.

BTW, I thought it was Carrie's mission to prove the love of her life was innocent, yet she picks up some random dude in the liquor store and gets it on.

It was a good, not great 1st episode overall. I was entertained.

What was the deal with Saul and his wife? I know they are estranged. He stared at her wrists like he saw something and then she pulled away.

Re: Homeland -- Season Premiere -- "Tin Man Is Down" -- 9/29/13

A few thoughts about last nights episode:

-Whether we like it or not, the Brody family is probably going to be here til the series ends. I think the creators put themselves in a box because if you take a whole season or two to follow a family, its tough to cut them out totally.

-Carrie coming unhinged in the Senate Hearings is par for the course on this show, as I have come to accept that she will continue to fly off the handle, and then probably be back in the CIA later in the season.

-I loved Season 1, but was pretty mad at last season cause it seemed to get pretty ridiculous. But I saw an interview with Brody's wife on Jimmy Kimmel and she pretty much said that the show is going to continue to take liberties and the drama will always win over reality, so I think fans either need to accept it or just move on an ditch the show because that is the way they are writing it now.

The theme of this season is how people deal with things AFTER a disaster/turmoil...so we're going to see the aftermath at both the CIA and the Brody home. It's going to be a more somber/less action-filled season that some fans are going to love and some fans are going to hate.

Problaby mean to say but if they do keep Brody's family around... we need more naked wifey on screen and if the daughter gradually takes off more cloth... im cool with that. lol

On a more serious note, I dont see the reason to have they still around. They really kill the pace of the show.

I will tune in for more episodes and see how this season turns out.

Re: Homeland -- Season Premiere -- "Tin Man Is Down" -- 9/29/13

Having not watched this episode yet, I think "Homeland" has one critical flaw. And that flaw is that it has a limited premise. The whole series was built around whether or not Brody had been 'flipped' by Islamic terrorists. And that is a very limiting concept.

The longer Homeland runs, the more silly and convoluted it's going to get as the characters are going to be put into more and more ludicrious, credibility-stretching situations. Certain things are embedded in the DNA of the series like Brody's duplicity and Carrie's mental illness, and the longer it continues, the sillier it's gong to get. This is not a concept that leads itself to an open-ended narrative.

I agree. And like I said earlier... they should just take a break from Brody. Reset. Have a new threat. I'm not saying be done with him, but having a season or 2 of him not around will make for a greater impact if they chose to bring him as a link to a plot. It opens the writing up. But oh well. That is not the alley they are going down. The show will most likely suffer because of it. And just like the long running Showtime shows (Weeds, Dexter) it will over stay its welcome, and go out with a whimper. And as a reminder, Danes is contracted for 7 seasons.
