Favorite "Zelda" Game?

Re: Favorite "Zelda" Game?
Tough question. Probably A Link to the Past. For many reasons: First Zelda I beat before my older brother, I love the light world and dark world, the side quests are all awesome (Golden sword all-day) and I am impartial to overhead Zelda games.
Honorable mentions would definitely be the Oracle games and Link's Awakening.
Still can't weigh-in on Majora's Mask or Skyward Sword, but I will be playing through them before the end of the year. I made it my goal to play and beat every Zelda game this year...Animal Crossing de-railed me a bit this summer.

Ocarina is #1
Looking at that list:
Loved:
Zelda
A Link to the Past
Ocarina
Liked:
Zelda II
Wind Waker
Okay:
Phantom Hourglass
Hated:
Twilight Princess
Skyward Sword
Majora's Mask
Got bored of Twilight Princess after around 8-10 hours. Skyward Sword lulled me to sleep in much less time, around 4 hours. Never gave Majora's Mask a fair shake, I just kept going back to Ocarina.
So the last one I truly loved was 15 years ago. I need to keep that in mind when the next one hits and save me some money.

A Link to the Past for me. I had a hard time getting into the 3D Zelda games (same with the Mario games too, i'm just weird I guess), but I loved everything about LttP. Like Moopher, loved the light and dark world, the animation and characters were fantastic and memorable, and everything was just perfect. Incredibly replayable too, without looking dated like some of the 3D ones.
It's the reason why i'm interested in a 3DS/2DS for the sequel.

Link to the Past. Prefer the overhead perspective and the two different worlds made it seem like you were getting twice as much game.
Though my son just beat Ocarina multiple times as well as Majora's Mask (with a walkthrough) and it was fun to see those again. I liked Wind Waker a lot too.

Re: Favorite "Zelda" Game?
I've only played a few of them myself, but of those, its a tie between the original and "Ocarina of Time". The second game ticked me off to no end for years, until I finally made myself play through it again. In retrospect, its not too bad.
The original had it all: an open world, tons of puzzles, and catchy music. It was also hard as hell, especially for me at 9 years old. I didn't finish the Second Quest until last year, on an emulator no less...it's that difficult.
I was 18 when "Ocarina" came out, and I remember renting it from a local Hollywood Video for months (racking up a huge fine by not returning it). The most challenging area is still the Water Temple; everywhere else pales by comparison. I finally gave the game back, not from beating it, but because the fine got so big it wasn't worth keeping anymore. Now, I've completed it many times over, and am the proud owner of a gold uncensored copy, that I bought off CraigsList 3 years ago. "Majora's Mask" still stresses me out, but a friend recently gave it to me for free, so I'll probably take another shot at it.

LttP and Ocarina are probably about even for me. Just everything in those games clicked. Wind Waker falls behind those but not by much -- I know it's getting a lot of love now, but for the longest time I felt like the only person in the world that loved that game.

Re: Favorite "Zelda" Game?
A Link to the Past is my favorite.
Mostly because of childhood nostalgia, although I do still play it today on *cough* emulators *cough* so its not blind nostalgia of something I haven't actually played in 20 years.
I also really like the two NES Zelda games, but they haven't aged as well as ALttP.
Ocarina of Time, in my opinion, is overrated. Its a good game, but not that good. The early 3D era looks like pure shit now, so it hasn't aged as well as ALttP has graphically speaking. Ocarina also wasn't as large as ALttP. ALttP had much more to explore, and a few more dungeons. Also, I really hated how they began to incorporate long cutscenes into Ocarina. All those boring cutscenes about the fairies and shit and that stupid owl that talks forever.
Majora's Mask was okay, but I hated how small everything felt with only one town and four dungeons to explore. It felt more like an expansion pack than a full game.
I never played any Zelda after Majora.

A Link To The Past and the only one that comes close is Ocarina of Time. Link To The Past basically set the template for every Zelda game that came after it. I will give credit to Ocarina for introducing badass Zelda, though.

Link's Awakening for me.
A Link to the Past never pulled me in, in fact I generally got bored of it long before it was over. Ocarina of Time was a beautiful game at the time, loved the atmosphere and liked the game, but I dunno, something was missing. Link's Awakening has nostalgia value, it's fun, loved the world map, liked the dungeons, and really enjoyed the overall storyline and world it created.
Plus for whatever reason, it still has some of the most memorable music from the franchise for me. And like all Zelda, fan made and orchestrated versions of the music turned out nicely:

Re: Favorite "Zelda" Game?
Well, I have the actual game and an NES to play it on, but i spend most of my time on the computer. I only have ROMs of games I actually own physical copies of, and I use them mostly for screencaps, videos, and such.

Re: Favorite "Zelda" Game?
I own them all, even the Capcom ones, and the ones I liked enough to finish:
LoZ
LttP
OoT
WW
TP
Of those, I gave the nod to Link to the Past over Ocarina of Time, but I'm not sure how much of that is nostalgia. The harder I think about it, the more I lean toward Ocarina, so I'm gonna stop thinking about it. Wind Waker is third.
The only one I actively dislike is Majora's Mask. Exploration with a world wiping timer? Fuuuuuck you! I guess I was pretty disappointed with Zelda II as well.
The Zelda "formula" is an absolute clinic in game design, and it's a tossup with Metroid for my favorite series of all time.

Re: Favorite "Zelda" Game?
It doesn't matter if you only download ROMs of games you own or think you aren't breaking the law. Ignorance is no excuse. Any court would still find you guilty.
Its not like I actually care if you download ROMs. I download them too and I have owned many NES/SNES games that I have downloaded, but I don't hold any illusion that its legal. I was really just poking fun at how you are such a diehard Christian, but yet here you are blatantly breaking the law and God's commandment of "Thou shalt not steal."

As for Zelda, I voted for the original. One of the most memorable game soundtracks of all time, and a really groundbreaking game.

For example, jaywalking is a crime although very few people are ever charged with it because its so minor. Likewise, minor speeding of only a few MPH over the speed limit is still illegal although most police officers won't bother pulling you over for it.
That's why they go after the "big dogs" (i.e. the distributors) rather than the individual downloaders. Sometimes, take the music industry for example, they will go after downloaders though. Its just not that common because its usually not worth the effort.

"Ignorance of the law is no excuse." Very famous quote, but I don't remember the source.

Moviefan really has no leg to stand on here, as he has uploaded at least one full feature film on YouTube that is still in copyright. So even if the ROMs were legal, that most certainly is not.
