Kim Deal left The Pixies last month.

Replacing Deal on at least the upcoming European tour will be Kim Shattluck from The Muffs.

A new song, Bagboy, was released recently. Sounds like Kim Deal to me. Hope they have a few more songs with her recorded for a future release. Don't know The Muffs at all or how good of a replacement Shattluck would be permanently. She has big boots to fill.

They called it quits too early after Trompe and now they don't know their time has passed

Agreed. I think it's great they started "reunion touring" to make some of the money they should've made back in the '80s/90s but they've been doing this for more than 10 years now and the endless cashing in is starting to get a bit old - I saw them in 2004 and it was amazing but there's only so long you can keep coasting on old glories, and the 2-3 "new songs" they've put out have been just OK. I enjoyed Frank Black's solo career and the sporadic Breeders career just as much as I do the original Pixies albums.

I consider them a nostalgia act at this point.. Maybe they should join REO Speedwagon, Kansas, and Foreigner on the state fair and casino circuit.

Frank Black is still putting out good solo stuff, although it has been awhile since he has released an album.

Kim Shattuck is a more than adequate replacement. If anyone here does not know the Muffs, then shame on you!

and the new song sounds exactly like a modern Pixies tune (and apparently that's not Kim Deal, but a pal of Charles named Jeremy Dubs). Not Dinosaur Jr. level of quality for the reunion, but still solid. Looking forward to a full new album, if it's coming.

I don't think they would replace Kim Deal just to continue a nostalgia tour - there must be new music coming.

As someone who considers Pixies to be my favorite band, it pains me to say the new song is crap and without Kim Deal, they need to call it a day.

The song is dreadful. Kim Shattuck is an upgrade (I never was a Kim Deal lover). Ten years is way too long to go without releasing something proper.

Not a big fan of the new song, but I wouldn't go quite so far as to call it dreadful.

It would be funny if they'd placed an anonymous Craigslist ad looking for a female bass player who was into Husker Du and Peter, Paul and Mary.

Whatever happened to Doolittle-Omnibus edition? Beggars Banquet in the UK announced this deluxe edition of this classic album a few years ago, and there has been zero updates since then. Doolittle turns 25(!) next year, maybe they will release it then?
Also, pixies without Kim Deal is NOT the pixies!!!

I've wondered that, too. Once I year I do a search and am not surprised to see that there's been no progress. I assume that project must be dead.

Also, I could never bring myself to pick up Minotaur - the price was just way too high, but I do have all the Mofi SACD releases that have come out so far. I wish they'd finish those up.

I can't remember the last time I heard a song that I hated and loved at the same time. The chorus is sweet, but the rest of the song drives me nuts. I've always felt the 2nd phase of this band was more nostalgia than not and really don't care what they do today. Actually, replacing with Kim S. makes me a bit more interested.

They don't have any bad albums, but I'd rec you just try them in order. The debut is from '93 and self-titled. Blonder and Blonder in '95 is the second one.

Actually start with first two then get the Hamburger comp. Their bsides and comp tracks are just as good as anything on their albums!

well as much as I don't like the thought of the Pixies keeping on without Kim I had to purchase a single day ticket to Riot Fest in Chicago .... can't pass up watching the almost Mats, the almost Pixies and Bob Mould all on the same bill together (among others)

I wish the almost Violent Femmes were playing that day, too.
