? RE: Sound Bars and audio transmission DD and DTS
I Am interested in getting a Sound bar that supports DD and DTS after dumping my 5.1 system. My question is...My dvd player is connected to my TV through an HDMI cord. My Tv has an optical digital out port to go to the sound bar. Will the sound bar pick up the DD and DTS signals from the DVD player through the HDMI Cable???? or do you really need an Optical or coaxial out from the dvd player to the TV to get those signals to come through??? Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated-Thanks-

The HDMI can certainly pass DD/DTS from player to TV. The question is whether your TV will pass that thru its output. Some do, some don't.

Those outputs are foremost for sound from the TV tuner. Some of them pass thru from an HDMI input, too. You'll have to check your manual.
