Your favorite punk band ever
Right, although no two people will probably agree on what makes a band "punk," and whether bands like Green Day are punk or pop, let's start a debate. What's your favorite "punk" band ever - and if it's not listed as there's no way to list everything, tell us who.

Re: Your favorite punk band ever
The original Misfits with Danzig and Black Flag are two of my favorite bands but also about as much punk as I can take. The Sex Pistols were nothing more than the Spice Girls of punk and The Clash I will never understand the appeal. I love the Stooges but don't consider them punk, they are more like the Velvet Underground to me. I also admit to being ignorant of most of it so...

The Misfits (Danzig era) is the greatest IMO. Catchy riffs, macabre lyrics, and a tongue in cheek air that keeps me listening to their music.

The Ramones are the greatest American band of all time!
After them, as far as punk goes, I'll pick the Misfits, Black Flag (pre-Rollins for me), then X. The Dead Milmen's "Punk Rock Girl" will always be one of my sing along favorites. With the change in the Clash's music & vibe I lost interest in them.

Re: Your favorite punk band ever
Tough call, I went with Bad Brains, but the Ramones really are the year zero for all that. The Misfits, Bad Brains, the Damned (probably my top three behind the Ramones) wouldn't have existed without them.
I do like just about all the other bands listed though. Depends on what mood I'm in. Bad Brains I probably still listen to the most out of all the punk rock bands I got into growing up.

Although I went with The Clash, I'd put X at almost the same level----just for me personally, I love the reggae/dub influences of The Clash, and that puts them at the top on my list.

Re: Your favorite punk band ever
Don't make me choose between X, Minutemen, Clash and Husker Du. I can't do it.
Edit:
Sentimental favorite, band that means the most to me: Minutemen. Double Nickles may be my personal favorite album of all time. "History Lesson Part 2" is in the running for my favorite song of all time. D, Mike and George are like old friends to me at this point, and I've never met them. D's Pedro dude vocals, their crazy invented language, stream of conciousness album sequencing and amazing technical skills make a unique, human sound that I love.
Band I listen to most often: The Clash. London Calling is likely the best album ever made, their debut is the best classic punk album, Give Em Enough Rope in an underappreciated classic. Combat Rock has huge sentimental meaning for me and the more I listen to it, the better I think it is as an album. Even Sandanista is pretty great.
Band I listened to most in high school: Husker Du. I saw the video of "makes No Sense at All" on 120 minutes when I was 14 and I thought it was the best song I'd ever heard. Flip Your Wig and New Day Rising pretty much established the template of what I would consider "good music" for me. At age 15, I had Zen Arcade on repeat for a few months there.
Band every time I listen to, I become convinced they are the most underrated band in US history: X. The rocking but sensitive duet vocals, Billy Zoom's expert, throwback rockabilly riffing and possibly the best rhythm section in punk history. Amazing songs and they were great live. It's a definitive LA sound to me.
I cut my teeth on punk so it's really hard for me to narrow it down much. I went through a huge Misfits phase. Minor Threat was up there with Husker Du for me twhen I was younger. The Rites of Spring album still sounds great to me. The Dead Kennedys' first album may be my favorite hardcore album. Fugazi was the first concert I went to and it's still one of the best. I used to love Nation of Ulysses, Cows, GBH and MDC when I was a kid. "Milo Goes to College" is amazing, as is "Germ Free Adolescents". Flipper's debut is an unsung classic that has influenced hundreds of bands. Big Black was the nastiest band of all time and produced two of my favorite albums ever (Atomizer and Songs about Fucking).
Even some modern punk is amazing: Fucked Up, Metz, Pissed Jeans, Trash Talk etc have all been putting out terrific music. Etc.
