Falling Skies -- 2 Hour Premiere -- "On Thin Ice/Collateral Damage" -- 6/09/13
Synopsis:
Hour 1
Season three of Falling Skies opens seven months after the 2nd Mass arrived in Charleston. In the interim, Tom has been elected to political office, but he has his hands full as the resistance continues to battle the alien invaders. Tom's decision to have the rebel skitters fight alongside humans creates tension and raises suspicions that someone may be feeding secrets to the enemy. Meanwhile, Hal struggles with nightmares that seem so real, he has difficulty knowing if he's awake or dreaming. And Tom and Anne prepare to welcome their baby. Terry O'Quinn and Gloria Reuben guest star.
Directed by Greg Beeman
Written by Remi Aubuchon
Hour 2
With hostilities escalating between the resistance and the alien invaders, Tom calls on a nuclear specialist (guest star Robert Sean Leonard) known as "The Rat King" to come up with a plan that will strip the aliens of their power. As suspicion continues to mount about a mole within the resistance, Tom and his leaders make a drastic decision that jeopardizes trust among the group. Anne, meanwhile, has a feeling that all is not right with her newborn. Gloria Reuben also guest stars.
Directed by James Marshall
Written by Bradley Thompson & David Weddle

The previews make this season look fantastic. I was always in anyway, since it's a short summer season.

This show is also a keeper in our house. I'm kind of annoyed by the seven-month gap in the narrative after the season 2 finale brought in a 3rd faction. I'm sure it's fine and they'll start in the same scene anyway.

I'll be watching (after I watch Game of Thrones). Some of the writing is pretty bad, but some of it is good. I like the issues involving the harnessed--and recently "deharnessed"--humans.

The first hour was definitely better than the second. The effects were good, and there was a death I wasn't expecting, but there was some crappy stuff too... Tom's youngest son yelling at Anne "I don't have to listen to you. You're not my mother!" was predictable, and then his apology complete with "Can I call you Mom" was just plain nauseating. There was too much of that warm fuzzy shit in Season 1, and now it's back. Puke. And the new aliens and the harnessed kids, unfortunately, look like they're wearing cheap Halloween masks.

If I'm not mistaken the Asian guy was killed off.
Overall, good but not great 2 hours. I agree that Hour 1 was better than Hour 2.
I admit I was a little thrown off at the beginning, especially when that talking alien was participating in the gun fight with the Mechs. And then Hal was in a wheel chair. Then it was brought up that 7 months had past since last season.
I vaguely recall the finale from last season when some space ship was landing.
I guess the talking alien & his group brought some new technology to the 2nd Mass with that machine that Anne used to remove the harness.
at Tom being the President. That was another thing that threw me off.
So I guess we have a mole in the 2nd Mass that killed John Locke? Plus, the mole used that little insect device to gather up the intel to send back to the Mechs.
I agree with Joe, Matt's scene with Anne at the end of Hour 2 was pretty cringe-worthy. That was pretty bad writing....Plus, Tom and Anne aren't even married?
I totally did not recognize him at all, but that scientist in Hour 2 was Robert Sean Leonard, who played Wilson on House. Totally unrecognizable even though I did see his name in the credits.

4.2M viewers and 1.5 last night. Some great numbers, especially for 2 hours and against Game of Thrones.

Good opening episodes. This is most definitely the best sci-fi/apocolypse type show that anyone has put out in the last decade or so. Looks like they upped the budget too.

very annoyed at the 7 month gap as well. but, glad it is back. what's the deal with Hal not being able to walk (other than at karen's command)? did he/she say it was due to the bug in his ear? did he just wake up one day not being able to walk?

Nice to see Robert Sean Leonard from House landed on his feet in a new gig. Wonder if he'll be a reoccurring character on here. Sounds like he will be.

The moment I heard Wilson I was happy. Even if it meant that Locke was killed off a bit too quickly for my taste.
Decent season opener, though they're really doing this heavy handed "are they here for good? what are they really up to?!" planting with the Cochese aliens. Which just sounds like a name of an undercover cop from a 70's television show.

Why don't the fishheads just send a swarm of robot bugs after the humans? For that matter, whatever became of the bug that was crawling on Weaver at the very end of the season 1 finale?

^Haha! Sabotage! Awesome video. Friend of mine, named Todd, looked just like Bobby "The Rookie" from that video, so we started calling him Sabo'todd'.
