TNT picks up Legends -- Spy thriller starring Sean Bean, Ali Larter -- Summer 2014
http://www.deadline.com/2013/05/howa...series-pickup/
TNT has greenlit spy drama Legends, starring Games of Thrones alum Sean Bean and executive produced by Homeland‘s Howard Gordon and Alexander Cary. TNT has ordered 10 episodes of the series, which is being produced by Fox 21, for a 2014 debut. (Watch trailer below) It joins another “popcorn” new TNT drama, the Michael Bay-produced The Last Ship, which was picked up yesterday. They will likely join the network’s Sunday lineup anchored by sci-fi drama Falling Skies.
Gordon, Cary and Jonathan Levin serve as executive producers on Legends, along with showrunners Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris. Jeffrey Nachmanoff and Mark Bomback serve as consulting producers. The pilot was directed and executive-produced David Semel and written by Nachmanoff, who developed the story with Gordon and Bomback. Based on the book by master spy novelist Robert Littell, Legends centers on Martin Odum (Bean), an undercover agent working for the FBI’s Deep Cover Operations division. Martin has the uncanny ability to transform himself into a completely different person for each job. But he begins to question his own identity when a mysterious stranger suggests that Martin isn’t the man he believes himself to be. “Legends has everything you want in a good spy drama: intriguing characters, multi-layered plots, a terrific cast and lots of action and suspense,” said TNT’s head of programming Michael Wright.
Legends co-stars Ali Larter as Crystal Quest, a fellow operative who has a history with Martin; Rob Mayes as Troy Quinn, a former Special Ops agent with a single-minded mission-first mentality; Tina Majorino as Maggie Harris, the newest member of the DCO team; Steve Harris as Nelson Gates, the director of the DCO Task Force; and Amber Valletta as Sonya Odum, Martin’s ex-wife; and Lux Haney Jardine as Martin’s pre-teen son, Aiden.
The trailer is on the TNT website:

So you take THE BOURNE IDENTITY, add a touch of ALIAS and you get LEGENDS, right?
The trailer makes it look relatively low-budget, even for TV. Probably didn't want to include that "Cancellation Notice" part in the clip, either, as this may be a bad omen for the show.

I'm a bit skeptical on the lost identity aspect of the plot I got from the trailer.
Ali Larter I can take or leave, but Bean could carry a well produced straight forward spy thriller without that gimmick.

Now let's not lose our heads here. I'm sure Sean Bean will survive this series just fine.

Wasn't Bean being considered for Bond in GoldenEye and given the 006 role as a consolation when they hired Brosnan instead? I've often tried to imagine what the series would have been like had they cast him.
Bean being. Bing bing. Michael Biehn. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.

The Bond films would have been like season one of Æon Flux but with a dude in the lead role.

That was an unimpressive trailer. TNT's track record is garbage. Plus I can't stand Ali Larter.
I doubt even Sean Bean can save this one.

The opening music in that trailer sounds like the music from the opening scene of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

So is this series going to be one season only?
I'll def check it out as it sounds like it could be interesting.

TNT doesn't get that much love here since most of their shows are procedural dramas, but they do have plenty of successful shows.
Major Crimes
Rizzoli and Isles
Falling Skies
Dallas
Perception
Murder in the First seems to be doing okay so far.
The Last Ship premieres Sunday and Legends (this show) premieres in August. Transporter: The Series, which they also picked up for 2 seasons, airs this Fall.
They have very few flat out bombs. The last one that bombed was Frank Darabont's show Mob City, however that got an awful timeslot (airing in December) and they burned through the entire season in 3 weeks.

I read about this somewhere (either EW or TV Guide). The interview mentioned SB's propensity for dying so often. Sean laughingly said that they guaranteed him that he'd be around for a while and if IRC the implication was that this series could be multi-season if it was successful. Not really sure though...
TNT's new series, Murder in the First is pretty good. Great villain with some seriously freaky eyes.

I totally forgot all about this show. Not that the ads had me enthused in the slightest, despite the leads.
