Before we get started, apartment/NYC experts: How good would Peggy's place be today, was what the realtor said about the value quadrupling correct or an understatement?

That said, it's certainly a pretty tony area. Not a cheap place to live.

I think at one point it was mentioned that Don's penthouse(Wikipedia says 73rd and Park ) was bought for 75,000. That place would go for several million today easily(although they'd have to do something about the sunken living room )
Also, Abe's idea to go to the Upper West Side was a good one!
EDIT: 1300 sq feet at 84th and York on the upper east side on a high floor with 1 parking spot and an option for a 2nd for 28,000! That would be $800k to $1 million today, maybe more if she had grabbed the 2nd parking spot ha. Parking spots alone in Manhattan can go for a few hundred thousand apiece. $5,000 was too large of a discount though--Peggy needs a new real estate agent!

I was totally on board for the first half of this episode. I loved how the King assassination came out of nowhere, because that's how these things are in real life (as opposed to JFK where we all knew it was coming before Rodger's poor daughter did). Then it just went on and on. So self indulgent. And I could give 2 1/2 fucks about Ginsberg -- why is he still on the show. I had read that he's Matthew Weiner's surrogate and that's the only reason that makes sense to me.
It's interesting : The Sopranos never got bad, but it did get slow and self-indulgent after a big contract dispute and work stoppage got resolved. David Chase really took the reigns and did whatever the hell he wanted to after that. It seems like exactly the same thing is going on here. Last season and this one have been, not bad, but slower and less interested in telling a conventionally interesting story. I think this is what happens whenever show runners are given too much power over their shows.

I'm still not quite sure what to think about this episode yet -- will need to watch it again. A few things I liked: 1) the opening shot of the back of Peggy's head (how many times have they done that with Don?) 2) the Pete/Harry spat in the office and 3) Don and his son at the movies. at Roger's LSD buddy.

Quick question : when Betty tells Don that he'd walk to Canada on his knees for his girlfriend, did she mean Meagan or is she just correctly assuming he's cheating on her by now?

Kind of surprised that they've covered so much time in less than 3 seasons. The Kennedy assassination was late in season 3 and that was 1963. MLK was 1968. So in less than 3 seasons they've covered 5 years of historical time. I guess that's a pretty good indicator they will make it into the 70's at least.

My favorite moment was Don and some of the other theater patrons reading the "Ape News" theater handout.

Ginsberg is fine... in the office. I still don't understand why there is the need to see his home life... it was weird last year... and weird again this time.
And the nice reference of making sure he doesnt get "lost" on the way out.

And Abe was right...the avenues do get really long the further east (and west) you go. 1st to York is a hike comparatively.

I thought this episode was OK, but it seemed disjointed or something. Like the scene with Roger's odd client.
I don't have a problem with centering a show around the MLK assassination. That was a huge event. It would have seemed strange if they didn't make a big deal out of it.

The 2nd avenue line would have been lost on me if I hadn't seen this segment on CBS Sunday Morning a few weeks back. Made it funny.

There is a clear difference in this show between seasons 1-4 and 5-6, and I am not a fan of the change, overall. There are still good episodes sprinkled throughout, though.

Cast of Mad Men on Katie Couric's show.
Can someone please explain to me why a gal as insanely hot as January Jones is being totally wasted in a quality show by playing a shrew in a fat suit and looking like this:
