Best and Worst things of the 2012 - 2013 TV Season?
I've been making my way through American Horror Story Asylum and have to say Lily Rabe as a
and Ian McShane as a demented Santa Claus have been two of the most enjoyable things I've seen this season.
I was also surprised to enjoy Bunheads. Alright half of it.
Anything catch you off guard this TV viewing season? Name the shows, spoiler the spoilers.
Figured to be all encompassing and throw worst in there as well.
Best: AHS:Asylum Lily Rabe and Ian McShane, House of Cards
Worst: Homeland starting off slow and then going off the rails

Re: Best and Worst things of the 2012 - 2013 TV Season?
Best:
Banshee on Cinemax
Arrow on The CW
Dexter's 7th season. Coming back after a disappointing 6th season
Person of Interest on CBS getting even better than season 1
Covert Affairs on USA becoming a darker and more serialized spy thriller
Michelle Borth becoming a series regular on H50 and gracing us in her short shorts and skimpy clothes
Jimmy Smits on Sons of Anarchy
Gossip Girl finally ending
Worst:
Touch preventing 24: the movie from getting made
Hawaii Five-O's really goofy plots
Although I still watch it and get some enjoyment out of it, 2 Broke Girls regressing in season 2, mainly giving way too much time to Jennifer Coolidge. It was a bad idea to make her a regular.
Revenge's 2nd season being really unfocused
ABC's Thursday at 8pm deathslot
90210 on The CW becoming a bad parody of itself. I'm finishing the show, but season 5 has been horrible. It's a disgrace to the original show from the 90's.

Arrow was a pleasant surprise. I also enjoyed the first half of Revolution (I'll reserve my final judgement until after the second half of the season airs). Mindy Project was a pleasant surprise along with New Normal. Grimm keeps getting better as the mythology thickens. Nashville turned out to be a decent show. Justified continues to dazzle.
American Horror Story:Asylum lost me 6 episodes in. 666 Park Avenue was horrid. Elementary turned out to be another boring CBS procedural paling in comparison to the absolute brilliance that is Sherlock. Cougar Town is dying a slow death on TBS - why aren't they pushing the envelope more now that they're not on a major network?!

I assume you mean good GG finished, not that the end was good? I stopped after S2 and was debating checking out the last few eps to see how things wrapped up.
Agree Arrow has been really enjoyable. I find myself looking forward to the next episode whenever one finishes.
I'm not as keen on the Americans, but I still think the premise is great and feel it slowly improving week to week.
May have to pick back up Cover Affairs. I was turned off by the episodic nature by the end of season 2. Also feel like they wasted a lot of actors and characters.

Low points:
Weak line-up on Amazing Race
The uncomfortable Brandon meltdown on Survivor, and the lack of Brenda.
Every time Andrea appears on screen in Walking Dead
As DJariya mentioned, the stupid plots of Hawaii 5-0
Best:
Another solid season of Nikita
Elementary has been a pleasant surprise

Re: Best and Worst things of the 2012 - 2013 TV Season?
Best:
Grimm and New Girl firmly entrenching themselves as one of my favorites.
Revolution being a 'decent' surprise. Thought it would have been cancelled.
Game of Thrones.
Low:
Last Resort, so much hope.
Arrow - Watched the first 3-4 episodes, really liked it. episode 5 the sound was screwed up, so we deleted it..then just never got back to it :\
Once upon a Time - We still watch, but there are now so many crazy things going and different storylines..and I thought game of thrones had too many!.

Re: Best and Worst things of the 2012 - 2013 TV Season?
Has Hawaii Five O ever not had stupid plots? The show is unintentional comedy - always has been, always will; can't believe people actually take it seriously. It's biggest problem this year -- not enough McGarrett/Rambo action.
Best: The Americans - another home run for F/X.
Worst: Broadcast TV in general. But I echo the Last Resort sentiment above. Show had so much promise (though I was always skeptical of it's long term approach), but never had a chance in that timeslot.

Re: Best and Worst things of the 2012 - 2013 TV Season?
Best:
While I loved the first season of American Horror Story I was still surprised at how good season 2 was. It seems like a set up that has failed so many times in the past so I'm always skeptical but AHS has pulled it off twice now.
I'm behind a few episodes on The Americans but I've really been enjoying it.
Dexter pulled out a great season after a really disappointing season 6. The ending of the season gave me a lot of hope for where they'll go in the final season.
Worst:
Really disappointed with Once Upton A Time. It was a lot of fun last season and I just lost interest this season. Haven't seen the last 8 or so episodes.
No new network dramas for me, which is disappointing. I may have to try Arrow out though.

Forgot to add
Best:
Chicago Fire on NBC - I know alot of you guys never gave it a shot or wrote it off after the Pilot, but it turned out to be a solid action, character-driven drama. Nothing at all like Rescue Me. It's actually a ratings hit and will probably get a 2nd season.
Pretty Little Liars - Great 3rd season from the girls in Rosewood. Mainly highlighted by Troian Bellisario's solid performances.
Dallas - Bringing back the over the top nightime soap opera.
Nashville - Pleasant surprise highlighted by really good music. Doesn't get talked about much here though.
Southland - One of the most underrated shows on TV
Parenthood -- Really great and dramatic season highlighted by Monica Potter
Worst:
NBC giving Parenthood only 15 episodes
Girls on HBO losing the must see factor. I'm still watching it, but I don't have the immediate urge to watch it right away. Lena Dunham made the show too much about Hannah in season 2.

Yes, definitely give Covert Affairs another shot if you have the time. Not sure if it will re-air before season 4. But, it's almost an entirely different show. They got rid of IMO the most useless characters, gave it more edge and made the plots more serialized.

best:
the americans has taken a perch on the top of the list of must watch shows
nashville turned into a solid show, tunes are consistently good and t-bone burnett as producer is gr8
bbt still delivers solid laughs
shameless continues to be a hoot
parenthood remains one of the most underrated shows on tv, hoping for a renewal
downton abbey remained a fun watch
not so good:
survivor just doesnt do it for me anymore, stopped watching
same for american idol
same for the office
same for HIMYM
smash flamed out, after a kooky first season, was hoping for a solid re-boot, oh well..
homeland definitely going off the rails, hoping for better results in s3
x-factor in s2 was as bad as in season 1, with simon getting worse as a judge... and overproduction nightmares

Re: Best and Worst things of the 2012 - 2013 TV Season?
BEST
Slightly new format of The Ultimate Fighter
Cool villains like the Governor, Wynn Duffy, Regina Mills
The chicks often being the funniest thing on The Big Bang Theory
Bar Rescue
Elementary - The only new show I watch
WORST
Waiting a year between seasons (Psych, Breaking Bad)
Charlie Sheen's 30th chance
American Idol finally forcing me to quit after 11 seasons
The fact that my wife loves Mob Wives and that Big Ang now knows her by name. UGH.

Re: Best and Worst things of the 2012 - 2013 TV Season?
Pleasant surprises:
Justified: Went fully serialized this season.
Chicago Fire: Took a while to get going, but has turned into a good show.
Person of Interest: Even better than last season.
Disappointments:
Revenge: Losing its way.
The Americans: I have some problems with it, but will keep watching.
2 Broke Girls: Not exactly a quality show, but S1 made me laugh a lot. S2 was so bad I gave up.
Arrow: Just didn't find this one engaging.

Re: Best and Worst things of the 2012 - 2013 TV Season?
Best
Enlightened turning into one of the most unique and just out there shows on tv
New Girl continuing to be the most funniest show on tv but also one that can handle dramatic stuff well when it needs to go there.
Person Of Interest,Parenthood and Nashville being just as good as critically acclaimed cable awards bait darlings even if the later 2 are ratings challenged bubble shows
King Of The Nerds being as funny, entertaining and compelling as it was in a reality competition genre that usually doesn't make for great tv anymore.
30 Rock going out with a great final season
Worst
Homeland,Girls,Revenge 2nd seasons
The Office finding new lows to sink for a once great series

While Cougar Town is not great, it is better than previous seasons and I am finally really enjoying it.
BEST
Elementary
Downton Abbey
Touch '
The Good Wife
Grimm
WORST:
1. Finally sick of Glee and gave it up.
2. The eps I've watched of the Mindy Project have been very disappointing.
3. cancelling Last Resort. This was not the best show on TV, but it had a unique premise and was well worth the watch.

Re: Best and Worst things of the 2012 - 2013 TV Season?
Ugh, this makes me sad. Finally got around to finishing up season 1 via Blu-ray, and went about halfway through the current episodes of season 2. While looking up the episode threads, I noticed that they don't even make a page of comments. So does it just completely go off the rails?
One thing I will say, the multiple storylines and backstories must get really confusing if you don't marathon the episodes, especially with the hiatus mid season.
I still watch the Office and enjoy some of it, but it has gone off the rails. What's sad is that my DVR, which was once so full of comedy shows, is nearly bare now... I've all but given up on catching up with HIMYM, 30 Rock ended, the Office is ending, Community is ending, who knows how long Parks and Rec will last (hopefully a long time). All that's left is Modern Family and maybe Happy Endings. A lot of that is due to NBC just dropping like a rock, which is sad in it's own right.
