Some of their stuff is OK, most of it is tuneless warbling. We're drowning in a sea of neatly trimmed beards, bowler hats, henley shirts, banjos and accordians. I can't take it any more. Post REM, post CSNY, post Decembrists folky, strummy campfire sinaglongs straining to feel "real", "epic" and "moving". Driving home the pain of life, the yearning for days gone by, the eternal search for meaning in a crazy world, man. Artisinal bread is baked, a handmade cask of homebrewed mead is tapped, a gingham picnic blanket is spread 'neath the old oak tree. The banjos swirl, the kick drum pounds, the tamborine is struck...won't you join in the merrie danse around the maypole? No Sir, I will not.

I'd still take all of today's "wuss" folk bands over all the nu-metal garbage that was all over rock radio during the last decade that had singers who all sounded exactly the same... you know, Disturbed, Chevelle, Seether, Godsmack, etc... I got sick of alternative stations playing those bands when that would've been like them playing Foreigner and Bon Jovi in the 80s.
And as far as I'm concerned, Mumford And Sons finally did what everyone has wanted, tried and failed to do... kick Nickelback's ass off radio. So you can't say they're all bad

Disturbed was okay, but Godsmack was better. Didn't care for any of the other bands you mentioned. Nickelback is horrid.

For what they were, the nu-metal bands weren't that bad, but I was sick of those bands being all over alternative radio when they represented everything that alternative was against. Funny to see alternative fans crap on all the 80s hair bands and then turn around and play Nickelback, who were basically an updated (but certainly NOT upgraded) Poison/Warrant

For some reason, rappers can be as thuggish as they want. But the industry will never allow another Robert Plant, Steven Tyler, David Lee Roth or Jon Bon Jovi if it can help it.

I gave those rock bands a break, because music sucked when boy bands were all the rage, so I welcomed any band that had drop d tuning.

And you can add Alabama Shakes and The Lumineers to that list. I can't stand all that 'woodsy' hipster shit anymore!
I mean it's not THAT bad, at least it's still somewhat rock and they play actual instruments and all but still.
But yeah,anything is better than Hip-Hop (which has been dominating the world for decades now)
And what's even worse is the COMBINATION of hip hop and woodsy hipster music in the form of people like Frank Ocean etc.

Very good point. I always wondered what the next generation could do to music to make me hate it since it was only getting heavier when I was a teenager and in my early 20's, which was fine with me. So of course what happened was it was got pussified.
Every time I see someone post about a band that everyone should hear it's some mid-tempo tepid acoustic-guitar driven thing. No dynamics whatsoever.

Back in the 1980s, I was told that music was mixed so it sounded best on a 4x6 car stereo speaker. That was where people heard it. I suppose that music is now mixed so it sounds best on ear buds.
(I'm glad that young people can still get old people to hate their music.)
