Who Do You Prefer: Joss Whedon or J.J. Abrams ?
Both Whedon and Abrams are known for being good at genre movies (and tv shows).
So if you were walking into a movie, which one do you prefer in the "Directed By" and/or "Written By" credits (preferrably doing both)?

I prefer Abrams over Wheden simply because I've seen (and like) more of his work.
Of Wheden, I've only really seen is The Avengers which I had fun with, Serenity which was good, and Firefly which was good but overrated.

Abrams. Whedon has only impressed me with Avengers, so i'll need to see what else theatrically he can do.

Abrams easily. The only thing Whedon has done I thought was any good was The Avengers, but I often wonder how much credit goes to a director. The script is everything, because that is the blueprint. If the script is great, even a shitty director can turn out a good film.

I've only seen The Avengers and Serenity by Whedon and didn't like either one. As for Abrams, I liked Super 8 quite a bit, thought Star Trek was decent, and disliked Mission Impossible 3.

They both fall on their asses on occasion, but I think I prefer Whedon. His work has more of an "identity" than Abrams, which I find above average but kind of generic. Cloverfield and Super 8 weren't bad, but both were kind of forgettable. Star Trek, I'm sort of torn on... on one hand I like the concept and execution, but the script was ass.
I'm not sure how much Abrams had to do with Fringe; I thought it was like Lost where he might have done a bit or work on the pilot, and got his named attached to the series.

Whedon, because he has a sense of humor and he's not the one who inflicted Damon Lindelof on us.

Whedon.
Because Alias sucks. Fringe sucks. Super 8 sucks. And he thinks he SO F---ING SPECIAL since he does the "mystery box" thing.
Whedon can actually tell a story.

I enjoyed THE AVENGERS. I did not enjoy STAR TREK. So I voted Whedon.

I enjoyed Lost but Abrams really had no involvement in that beyond the pilot. I dunno how much involvement he had in Alias but that show peaked at season 2. Never watched a single episode of Fringe or Felicity. I had a great time with M:i-III, Super 8, and Star Trek. Didn't he simply produce Colverfield?
As for Whedon, I never cared for Buffy, only liked a handful of episodes of Angel, I liked the general concept of Dollhouse but, despite a solid finale, the show was mostly a half baked mess. I loved Firefly (it's nothing revolutionary but it simply hits all the right notes for me) and really liked Serenity. The Avengers is simply a blast despite the "Phantom Menace" way the main threat was resolved.
Honestly, I find them about equal.

I've never seen probably more than an episode of any show Abrahms has made. Only show I've watched by Whedon is Firefly and I really enjoyed that, still makes me twitch at times how a bigger budget would have greatly helped certain episodes.
Movie wise? They're equal to me.

Abrams doesn't have anything on his resume to compete with Avengers or Whedon's screenwriting credit on Toy Story.

Whedon. Buffy and Angel both had slow starts, but once they got rolling they both became two of my favorite shows ever. I fantasize about where Firefly could've gone if given 7 seasons to shine like those two shows did, considering what his stuff does once it gains momentum.
Abrams I merely enjoy his work as opposed to loving it.

It comes down to characters for me, and Whedon is much better at writing and delivering interesting and enjoyable characters. Most of Abrams' characters are bland cardboard cut-outs.

You do know Whedon wrote the script for Avengers, right?
I voted Whedon, as I do prefer his stuff overall. However, if they were to collaborate I would like Whedon to be the writer and Abrams as the director.
